Yeah, but this time he borrowed money from people who cannot be duped.

sort by: page size:

Actually, the people he defrauded (and for which he's in prison) all say he doubled or even tripled their money.

This is f** wild. I don't understand level of incompetence it took to trust him with that much money. People who trusted them with this much money are fools. Fools with large $$$.

He defrauded real people whose borrowing costs and investment proceeds are a function of the daily LIBOR fix.

Yeah, they got lucky. Can you guarantee that the next set of investors he pulls this fraud with will be as lucky?

I've run into someone that basically did the same thing and has been going around to different cities and countries and pulling the same stuff.

He almost uses the exact same words and tries to twist things around like "well I could have gone bankrupt but I decided to do the right thing and pay back people". Meanwhile all he's doing is paying back fractions away using new investor money while living his comfortable lifestyle.

Nah they did. He lost their money on stocks, lied about the state of their investments then paid them all a healthy return from his drug ventures with them none the wiser.

Another day, another vile grifter gets rich off gullible conservatives.

Well, perhaps, but he _did_ lose/steal a lot of rich people's money, also. As Bernie Madoff discovered, it's different when you defraud rich people.

I stand corrected. Thanks. Edited my original post. But the point remains unchanged. He was not an isolated kook with no money or connections, and his supporters and his financiers definitely were not.

To illustrate my point, here's a solid gold Mercedes: http://www.greenprophet.com/2010/03/white-gold-mercedes/

Kooks in caves with no connections. Yeah.

I vaguely recall that his investors actually made money - he lied to them, but actually made them money....

He's made billions, he's obviously a genius con man.

And he was formerly involved in a Ponzi scheme. Why is it so hard for these people to make an honest living?

He fooled them for many many years, over 16 years according to Wikipedia. If the financial crisis didn't happen, it would probably still be going on.

Blame the people constantly giving phonies like this money. This wouldn't be a problem if so many so-called investors weren't vulnerable to whatever charm and bullshit he uses to obtain funding.

Why not grift? That's what is massively rewarded! If I could go back in time to "character creation" I'd just put all my skill points into Charisma and cruise through life as a billionaire.

Yes of course it was funny that a conman got millions of idiots to believe he would do something that might hurt the balance sheet of his biggest donors.

> Bernie Sanders scam

Bernie Madoff? Different guy.

Correct, he's the biggest con man in the world.

This con artist is still at it? Wow.

So did Bernie Madoff. Scams are no less scams just because someone got rich.
