"If he forgot to initial a box". Perhaps you remember Zoë Baird? She didn't pay the "nanny tax" on an illegal alien, and that controversy prevented her from getting to be the attorney general.

That's more than a box, yes, but then the followup nominee, Kimba Wood, DID pay the nanny tax, and herself broke no laws, but had hired another illegal alien. The echo from the previous nominee's case, plus her 5 days of training as a Playboy bunny while a student, prevented her from being attorney general, giving us Janet Reno.

It's really hard to say which things will cause problems.

As for the rest - absolutely agree.

I haven't seen the video, but the current governor's Chief of Staff complained that the previous governor (both Republicans) actively created a difficult process and legal requirements which were very high hurdles to cross. Part of that are the anti-patterns or dark-patterns in the sign-up system, but the qualification requirements aren't as easy to qualify for as many other states.

You’re not elected until proven innocent.

You have a public figure, law enforcement official and chief judge with a pretty well demonstrated (even celebrated) contempt for following the law, whose behavior towards young girls while a law enforcement official is fairly well documented.

The idea that an ADA in his 30s is cruising the shopping malls looking for teen (even if legal) companions is disturbing on many levels. Is that really the caliber of man that belongs in the US Senate?

In public service, perception matters.

This is just another example of highly unqualified political appointees giving back without regard to the constitution. It’s just going to happen more and more.

Appointing someone that ends up breaking the law vs. keeping someone that is known to have. These are not the same thing.

It's worse than just illegal, now that they announced that, everyone will assume his skin color is the only reason he was appointed (or at least a major factor) - despite an impressive resume.

It has to be this bad or worse! You dont hire ex attorney general who is corrupted on record (currently works for clients that he initally was investigating as GA and of course never got anywhere) if you dont need a player that has "get free from jail" card.

The previous president appointed Loretta Lynch as AG, who made a name for herself with civil asset forfeiture.

If he didn't want this sort of nonsense to be a front and center policy of the DOJ, then he would have appointed someone else.

What about Jeff Sessions? Policy wise, he's also a supporter of this policy, although he doesn't have the proven track record of using it as a tool like Lynch did. Maybe there's a small ray of hope there, but I doubt it.

> Newsom's pre-political career

That's precisely the problem: "Newsom, a multimillionaire who was a businessman before becoming a politician, has been dogged for years with ethics questions about his corporate holdings."

Not to mention: "Newsom also recently came under fire in the California press for allegedly abusing what are called behested payments"

So basically, Yorba f'd up by not getting advice from someone with deep knowledge of the proper bureaucratic bs to proffer for a successful application for tax-exempt status.

I don't think the governor is wrong at all. I think the DEI is being misused to actively turn down deserving candidates.

Yes. The dude made 3 mistakes: packing a gun, volunteering incriminating information in a totalitarian country, and embarrassing the state of Washington. WA voters deserve better representation by someone who isn't so reckless.

Janet Reno was pretty bad, too, and John Ashcroft.

Oh holy hell, I totally forgot about that. I'll update the post, because this is pretty bad:

"Hi, I'm Liz working to elect Ron DeSantis. Do you have a minute to answer a couple of questions?"

Maybe we should fire those AGs because they are not making any 'discernible' impact on sex trafficking in their respective states.

When a guy running for one office uses the power of his current office to smack down critics, then it gives off a bad smell.

Think about this: if the AG was somebody other than Candidate Corbett, would he have started this inquisition? Highly unlikely, imho.

There's the original IT screw-up - but I think the body of the sory is around the ineptitude of the elected governor.

Not specifically that he doesn't understand how the web works - more that he didn't care to find out before opening his mouth.

Or worse is aware, but is disengenuously pushing for a prosecution of somebody he disagrees with.

Yeah, totally. But that's not what governors think about when they make appointments like that.

Therefore "option two is that the guy who might soon be in charge of Arizona state elections is so incompetent and so stupid that he accidentally blocked Google from searching his website"

"Blocked" or "hired people who blocked" is the same thing in relation to a guy who wants to be elected to run things.

I can't remember where I read it but someone in the legal profession pointed out that she'd simply move over to the defense side and capitalize on all that insider experience she gleaned from being a prosecutor. otoh She probably won't ever be the governor of anything.
