"Bachelor of Science degree in physics at Penn's College of Arts and Sciences." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk

Sure, he does not have a MS or PHD but he was trained in physics.

He attended Queen's for two years and then transferred to University of Pennsylvannia to complete his bachelor's degrees in economics and physics.[1]

At the age of 19, Musk was accepted into Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, for undergraduate study. In 1992, after spending two years at Queen's University, Musk transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where, at the age of 24, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from its College of Arts and Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from its Wharton School of Business. Musk extended his studies for one year to finish the second bachelor's degree.[41] While at the University of Pennsylvania, Musk and fellow Penn student Adeo Ressi rented a 10-bedroom fraternity house, using it as an unofficial nightclub.[37]

In 1995, at age 24, Musk moved to California to begin a PhD in applied physics and materials science at Stanford University, but left the program after two days to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations in the areas of the Internet, renewable energy and outer space.[35][42] In 2002, he became a U.S. citizen.[43][44]

Since when did Musk get a PhD in anything? He has a BS in physics

Elon Musk has a degree in physics.

Elon has a degree, and was a PhD candidate.

Elon Musk has a degree in physics. So that addresses the original point. He knows basic physics.

Elon Musk did an undergraduate in Physics and Economics. What Engineering background?

Actually Elon isn't an engineer, he has Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Economics (Wharton) as well as 2 days worth of a PhD in Applied Physics and Materials Science (Stanford).

What I didn't know was that Jeff Bezos actually does have an engineering degree, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Princeton).

Elon Musk - gets a degree in physics and a PhD in materials and builds rockets.

The Author - gets a masters of arts and writes 2000 words hoping to get ad clicks to feed his kids.

He has a degree in physics, which is the fundamental science behind cars and rockets (and batteries and heat management, etc).

His undergrad was physics, and many engineers I’ve worked with started in physics then spent 1.5-2 years doing a masters in mechanical or electrical or aerospace engineering. So does Elon have the equivalent of 1.5-2 years of work as say an aerospace engineer in the past 20 years? Yea I think so..

You don't have to have a formal education to be considered an engineer. His bio says "engineer, inventor, explorer" http://www.biography.com/people/elon-musk-20837159

Elon Musk is not an engineer. He does not have an engineering degree and does not hold an engineering license.

I'm a huge fan of the guy, but he is not an engineer.

Elon Musk is an engineer and entrepreneur/inventor, not a physicist. He stopped being a physicist the day he dropped out of grad school at Stanford. Why would you call a lecture he gives a physics lecture?

Musk has no engineering training whatsoever.

elon musk is not an engineer...

How is Elon Musk comparable to mysticism and parapsychology? A physics-major working on engineering challenges like space travel, electric cars, and renewable energy... Elon Musk's pursuits are at least based in science, its the business viability that is unknown at the beginning

The guy has a master's degree in physics. My friend was a SpaceXer and said Elon could ask really pointed questions about forces, temperatures, combustion processes, materials, and so on because he really understood the fundamental science.

Musk also proficient in C++, among other things
