Not betting on just anybody who launches.

You are not a betting man.

I think it's weird to bet on the person instead of the company. I'd hate to be in a company or team where outsiders focused on one person.

Not betting anything?

I think you miss the point here. It's not about betting on one or the other, it's about having options depending on your team or project.

Whether or not something is a good bet does not depend on the outcome.

if you don't personally profit from the bet... it's not one.

It is the same as betting on SpaceX in some ways. You have to take a few moonshot bets.

Here's an alternative equation: bet on yourself, instead of on whether millions of others will succeed or fail.

What if you simply don't want to take a directional bet on that?

I don't find it exactly reassuring if everyone is already thinking the same thing.

"many small bets" does not mean you're picking them at random.

Betting on black probably has a higher success rate than the average startup though.

Competitive games are not based on chance. Betting on the outcome is.

>> "I won't be placing any bets off the back of it. Too many variables in human nature, playing conditions, external factors, and maybe even luck"

That's what makes betting on it fun! If you can reliably predict who's going to win it's not gambling :)

People will bet on literally anything. That's their own problem, not mine.

It is obvious that he isn't going to crash and burn hard - to you. So forcing you to reconcile with the inability to take a bet that is in accordance with your stated predictions has no value - it doesn't force you to confront the fact that you don't believe what you are saying with enough conviction to act on it and it doesn't force the audience to recognize it either.

Asking me to take a bet that doesn't match with my stated predictions isn't as reasonable. Why should I bet on something that I never claimed would happen? That said - I'm already invested in long positions in various AI & robotics companies. You can bet against my actual beliefs by taking positions which would benefit you if those companies aren't the future.

No, but at least you hold the reigns. Failure is your own, not someone else's. Taking a bet on yourself is an honest gamble. Taking a bet on someone else is a huge unknown.

If you're gonna take a bet, you might as well hold all the cards.

They weren't betting on Terra though, they were betting on Luna, which isn't pegged and is obviously a bet.

You're still taking a risk, only you're betting with your time and not money.

Well, I would like to loose that bet and do all I can that I would loose it. So sorry, I am not betting against my interests ..
