Baba Yetu, the theme song of Civ 4, was the first video game-related song to win a Grammy. Rightfully so too, in my opinion.

I'm sure you probably already know this but for people who don't follow music as much, Baba Yetu, was the first song from a video game to win a Grammy. It was originally sung by a Stanford a cappella group ( http://www.stanfordtalisman.com/ ). The composer, Christopher Tin, recently just released a new album called "To Shiver the Sky" ( https://christophertin.com/albums/toshiverthesky.html ). Check it out if you liked the music from Civ 4 as much as we did!

Baba Yetu is great but opening of Civ 1 was so inspiring (if you had a good MIDI box, I don't remember it sounding this good tho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrRGfHArMNA )

For maximum nostalgia I suggest putting on the original Civ 2 soundtrack:

I think many PC strategy games has excellent music: Age Of Empires, Home World, Sins of the Solar Empire, Total War and Civilization over its many iterations. I do find the music from these games have a different texture than music from other games.

For example: This song based upon the Epitaph of Siekelos, which plays if you play the Greeks in civ 5: https://youtu.be/YEKRE2uamyg

I think Civ 5 music was recorded with a real orchestra.

Even sometimes poetry; From Silent Hunter 4; https://youtu.be/8FrTuZxpD0k

The first track is very reminiscent of Geoff Knorr's work on the Civilization V soundtrack. Maybe they have a common inspiration somewhere.

I love the music for that game.

Some of the best music ever composed for a computer game I'd argue.

Christopher Tin is awesome. He did the music intro for Civ IV and did an AMA on reddit recently. I created his wikipedia article back in 2005 I think. :D

This just reminds me of the composer Soyo Oka, who did the music for some great games, like SimCity (SNES), SimCity (NES, unreleased), Super Mario Kart (SNES), Pilotwings (SNES), etc. She said that in making the SimCity music she wanted it to feel comfy while building the city, not hectic or frustrating. And god, what a masterpiece of a game and music. I still play it 30 years later.

The game music is a Shostakovich piece. Awesome.

The Wii menu music may unironically be one of my favourite ambient music pieces of all time, if I actually think about it. So much character!

I have been listening to Civilization 6 soundtrack recently. It all-instrumental.

Nimoy did all the vocals on Civ 1

I absolutely love the soundtrack. The game was great too.

Back in the era when video games had music.

One I particularly love is the soundtrack of the game Utopia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7RGtHOj8pM
