While I can relate to you in regard to the decreasing number of tech relevant articles (I wish there were more of them), I actually enjoy reading articles about class and the comments that follow.

serious question, if you arent interested in tech, what interests you about the articles and comments?

due to the content related to tech stuff

I really enjoy that trend. Tech is a dry topic with typically uninspiring presenters.

Ah, fair, a lot of discourse is centered around tech in many instances. There are some people that mostly talk about other things though, but there are indeed less of them, and they can be harder to find. You still can find them, but if you don't want to go through tech discourse to find them, it's understandable why you didn't.

Really? I have not got that impression so far. I sure don't. I would guess, that it is actually more people are here for tech news and reading like-minded people's thoughts. Keeping up to date with development and technologies.

Well, there are. I'm studying philosophy, for example and while I'm interested in tech I can't say I understand much of it. I come here for the interesting mix of news and refreshingly critical points of view.

Many things here unfortunately no longer relate to tech at all, this is slowing devolving into r*ddit 2.0

Are there any sites or publications left that emphasize technology ideas, theory, or experimentation? I don't have any more interest in funding, consumer products, or industry gossip.

I don't think anyone's ever complained about technology related articles. It's the stuff like TSA, Gay Marriage, and so on.

The problem with these topics is they can't be debated rationally since their underlying issues are ones of judgment (In the case of the TSA the judgment is how much a person is willing to be violated for the possibility of being safer and in the case of Gay Marriage it's what level of equality people are entitled to).

So these discussions will inevitably devolve into emotive bickering which is unproductive and adds a level of unpleasantness to the enviornment

Totally agree. It may help to remember that a tech nerd community might produce great insight on tech content, but nothing novel on social matters.

There are more than a few - there just aren't as many opportunities to talk about it in the context of tech news as compared to city or suburban living.

I'm mostly here for the technology / programming stuff, but I do appreciate the entrepreneurial factor. It seems to bias the content towards ideas that are potentially disruptive, as opposed to press releases and unfocused technophilia.

Not in tech either, but I like reading and casually following the scene. Kinda funny watching the language flame-wars every so often

I expect that tech news are the primary focus of this site, but that the 'spirit' of the site, as promulgated by the likes of @dang, is intellectual curiosity and debate with a tech focus.

I'm inclined to agree. Articles that are uncomplimentary of the industry ethos are few, and comments the criticize that ethos often see antagonistic replies or downvotes.

There are plenty of people here who have their eyes open and maintain a broad view of tech and the world. But these people seem overwhelmed by those that have completely swallowed the industry koolaid.

It's sad. I remember the fundamental optimism of the early days of IT . That's largely been replaced by smallest-feasible-product and monification.

A fellow individual of taste, I see.

But honestly, I would really enjoy seeing more of the latter type of think-piece in all seriousness. I genuinely do believe that the field as a whole would benefit from a bias towards $BORING_DEPENDABLE_TECHNOLOGY and customer centricity.

I recently started trying not to be overly dismissive about all the new stuff that is trending or picking up traction. I like tech, I make living off it, yet I'm one of those that happily move to 70's and use paper and pen instead. Now,instead of trying to shoot it down immediately, I at least try to understand what's going on and how different groups could benefit of it. So far it seems to be a positive thing.

I also tire of seeing the repetitive "let's get more X into tech!". I've quoted the article not raised points out of thin air.

wider range of subject matter ? Maybe us nerds/tech heads like other subjects ? Could also be the comments, but I don't comment very often and rarely read the comments except to be sure I am not repeating what was already there
