DDG is great, but as the other commenter said, it uses Bing mostly as its underlying search engine, which might not get you the results you're looking for (it's better at some things than Google, worse at others). For privacy though, DDG is great so I use it as my first-line search and then go to Google if I really need to.
I use it consciously! I'd rather not support Google, and after a few comparison searches between DDG and Google back in the day I used Google, I found DDG to be far inferior.
Plus Bing has nice background images (I use it as my homepage).
I don't get why people recommend DDG. It's mostly a different skin on bing search results. Why is relying on bing better than relying on google? If DDG had its own engine, I could see the "they're the small underdog focused solely on this" angle, but as-is, you have the choice of Microsoft or Google.
I don't know about others, but Google provides me relevant and useful results each and every time. I have no plans to switch to DDG or Bing or anything else anytime soon.
I tried DDG for a while. Search results were pretty good for me (and w! so! etc are nice), but google is so much faster. That takes capital investment, for local centers around the world. I'll try bing for a while.
Bing just feels gross to me, just like Google. But as someone pointed out, I guess DDG uses Bing for some of its results, so I don't have much of an argument here.
You’re right of course, despite the fact that I personally use Bing indirectly via DDG.
That said, my personal anecdata is that, a few years ago, g! Google search results would often find things that DDG didn’t - but today, those results rarely help (hence my OP).
I am not super confident DDG has got better, but it certainly feels like
Google’s quality has diminished.
I don't Google things, or DDG things. I search for things
