Lol. Yesterday's event was a software event, a jam packed incredibly long one at that. It was so packed they didn't even have time to talk about all the changes to the app store, which is why Apple disclosed that info ahead of time. Not sure when you would expect them to all also announce new hardware.

Just download iOS10 and open the new Breathe app, and Breathe. New Macbooks, iPhones, Macbook Pros, and Apple Watches will all come in time in future events.

I'm pretty sure Apple announced all the hardware last week, and tomorrow's event will be all about services.

This really shows that Apple is changing as a company. Rather than waiting for an event to announce things, they just announce them when they're ready. Their product cycle gets dictated more by the technology available than what might give them a boost at an event.

Did Apple announced those new products through some kind of conference that I missed?

I didn't know that there was an Apple event today.

It's not a product show -- though they do showcase some products from time to time, they do so mostly for major new stuff (e.g. new iPhone model etc). And they usually don't show minor updates (e.g. laptop speed bumps etc).

What we'll certainly see is new iOS and OS X versions announced.

A new Apple TV might be shown (though there's rumors about delays with content deals etc). A new MacBook Pro not so much, especially since they were recently updated and they wait for Skylake.

I find it curious that Apple is starting to communicate major product updates decoupled from an event. Just good old press releases.

Maybe they already have too many announcements to fit into the narrative of the handful of events per year.

With every Apple event, it's always about what they don't show you in their updates.

Let's be realistic. New product announcements from Apple happen at planned press events. The 10th anniversary of their first store will probably just have fancy new store displays and a give-away.

Edit: Disagreement probably warrants a reply, not a down-vote.

Interestingly, Apple’s next event is in 6 days, so this announcement may not age well :)

They likely announced this to set expectations. They don’t want headlines like “Apple Fails to Deliver Next iPhone on Time”.

They want to make sure that everyone knows that this event will be about software and nothing else.

Why aren't they announcing this at an event? I can't recall Apple releasing something like this without some type of fanfare and subsequent media push.

Also, if you’re not someone who follows Apple how would you like to buy something during the announcement of its replacement and find out an hour later?

I agree with another comment here that it’s more of a showmanship thing/making it more of an event these days.

Right. Apple hasn't even made an announcement yet. This is just an announcement of a future announcement. Not an real world event.

What's going on with Apple releasing so many updates without holding a press event? (It's not like they have always announced significant updates at their keynotes.)

I had the impression Apple was under pressure to announce products at their conferences because of their yearly cycle, and since they had not enough material to fill the two hours they announced what they plan to do. They also had to do some damage control and calm the professionals because they completely neglected this segment and had nothing to show.

Not strange at all, the Apple presentation was yesterday. Everyone is still discussing the new lineup as a whole, and it is directly related to this.

It's Apple, they don't need to do that. People love them, especially the people going to those announcement events.

Very "quiet" update. I hope this means, that Apple will have too much other stuff to show off at their October event (expected to be announced soon).

they want to push iOS. They are begrudgingly updating their Mac line, with horrible specs such as 5400 RPM drives, and are avoiding holding an event for the announcements.

This way they get to ward off accusations that they have forgotten about the Mac, and they get the profits from the sales, while still trying to drive consumers to iPads.
