I would imagine most people hardly use phone calls or SMS.
People need maps, a browser, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, Instagram. They consider these absolute basics of a phone these days. Before you say 'all I use my phone for is phoning' well that's not what most people do by any stretch.
There are this things called stationary phones. Some people still use them.
Also - some people don't have mobile phone because they don't want to be available all the time. As popular as moblie phones are, there is no law that says everyone should have them.
Interesting to get to know another person with the same property (I also have no mobile phone and never had any - and the reason is not lack of money or that I'm a luddite). Would you tell me your personal reason(s) why you decided not to have a mobile phone?
Do you really need a mobile phone? I spend enough time with the Internet in the home office. When I go out, I go to a mountain, forest or similar natural scene. A phone + Internet is just bringing what I seek to escape from with me.
Just ditch the phone. Problem solved. Simple solutions are usually the best.
I actually know a couple of people who simply don't own cell phones at all. They're certainly an extreme minority, but their lives aren't any harder for it. The only repercussion is that they can't get/send calls or texts when they're out and about.
The Internet and the occasional use of a stationary landline is all many of us need.
