It looked at the original schedule for the UHK and some of the recent updates. It looks like they are a little more than a few months late? I wish them all the best but I don't think they are going to be around long enough to deliver on the "add ons," let alone the long run.
I thought the UHK had a nonstandard keycaps or two?
Original plan was Sept AFAIK, now they're aiming for December delivery for the keyboard, April for add ons. I'm not sure if they'll make December, but even if it were to become February, that'd make < 6 months of delay - not that bad IMO. I did order some of the add on modules; we'll see if they get around to ever delivering those. I thought it was madness to take them on in the first place. I don't have any real reason yet to expect the keyboard itself to not be delivered. The update I got this morning makes it look like they're plugging along as the same pace of the last year or so.
The timing of this post is a bit funny. The UHK blog is just about due for an update on the manufacturing status for the thumb modules - the next post should indicate whether the modules are going to be available imminently, or delayed for some reason. These accessories are the clear differentiator for this product IMO.
We have never stated this. Please stop spreading misinformation about us. We've made it crystal clear in our most recent blog post that "we expect to deliver every non-module UHK webshop pre-order in January to February". See https://ultimatehackingkeyboard.com/blog/2018/12/13/shipping... . Afterwards, we'll transition to on-demand manufacturing.
The incomplete items that this update is about are an extra set of keycaps that I honestly can't even find where on the Kickstarter we were promised them. The main product successfully shipped long ago.
This. I've been following this product since it was first announced and I know it's been a looooooong road to travel for the team. If anyone is pondering doing a similar hardware product, you should check out the UHK blog because Laci goes into a lot of technical detail about development, procurement, and certification issues the UHK team ran into over two years.
I was mad when the projected date was missed, but as time went on, I strangely got less mad until I just threw up my hands and said "It'll be here when it's ready." I'm glad they didn't cut any obvious corners trying to get this out to meet angry customers mad about the ship date.
I really want this keyboard, but I will wait until they start shipping to see user feedback. It looks too good to be true, and the delays only make me think they are still not solid.
They do finally have stock? There was a thread just earlier this week where I mentioned this but there was a linked forum post where they've not been fulfilling preorders, etc.
Plus there's some straight up weird stuff on their Word doc exported "Spec Sheet".
I'm still waiting to receive Unobrush which I backed 2 years ago... They promise they will ship but there's no way to receive a reply from them. Sincerely, going back I wouldn't have bought
Yea, it's moving slower than I want but they're accepting pre-orders (half-payments) and I think they will have a few working prototypes at CCC this month.
It's frustrating because there's no definitive end-date but they are much much further along than most thought.
I placed an order for their previous model, they assured me that I should get it 4 - 8 weeks. After I didn't get anything for 6 months I messaged them that I want to withdraw my order (the phone had already old hardware during release, and it was a year old when I ordered it, but at the same time it cost as much as a high end phone). I got no response from them. I then contacted my credit card company and they charged back.
It sucks, because, I would really love phone with a hardware keyboard. I would place an order, but am afraid of the same thing happening again.
