All it would really take IMO is picking a nice colour for the links to give the site some kind of recognisable brand/theme/personality. Perhaps move the other text away from pure black to decrease the contrast slightly.
Underlining the links would be nice. The color of the links is similar to the color of some of the other text, plus it's close enough to black to mistake for bold text instead of a link.
Oh yeah, I see. I think I'm going to try and implement a low contrast theme, with grey links and easier to read text. Thanks for the link, I'll have a look at it!
Nice post but.. please, please, please make your links stand out some way. There are lots of useful links in there but they're exactly the same color and style as the body text!
Typography is good, but text with lots of links in it is difficult to read: the low weight font and the blue color doesn't work on the pure-white background. Maybe slightly darker color for links or a little bolder?
As it is though, I feel like there is too much black on the page -- and it's really black. All that black also makes it hard to read the gray content, which is stuff that I really do want to read. It also makes it harder for me to see the icons.
Sorry for the feedback on the aesthetics, just that the site is really hard on my eyes.
Concur - some of the contrasts would need to be improved for the palettes to be accessible. I found this particularly true with dark backgrounds and light hyperlink text.
Great effort on the site though - was fun to look through to look at some options.
It might be an improvement in this case, though it's common advice to limit the colour palette to a handful of colours. Blue text also doesn't always stand out against certain background colours.
Underlining links (particularly where there are many of them) can harm readability, which is why many popular websites do not do it, including the major search engines, Wikipedia and even Hacker News.
good concept, agree the logos at the bottom cheapen the site. Perhaps have them in greyscale as well, most would recognise those logos without the colours
That is a really nice collection. I think many of us are in the situation to have great products, but don't have the money to create a big marketing campaign or even buy a few ads to deliver it.
One thing: keep the dark color scheme, but don't put dark grey links on black background (like one commenter already mentioned here), and increase the line height by a few pixels, makes it a lot easier to read.
That's okay, I really appreciate the feedback! I'll give this some thought and see if I can tweak the colours a little. I often find myself falling back on Firefox's 'Reader View' if I find a website's colour theme a bit too jarring.
Great idea and great domain name, but I would suggest that monospaced fonts and #6A6A6A text on white are not exactly the best thing ever for readability.
You can probably leave the colors the same if you just switch to a proportional font, add a smidge more of padding, and bump up the line-height just a bit: http://cl.ly/3x1n103K472Z1J2t3Q3k
Thanks. Green on black is actually my preferred color scheme. I should add some alternative ones. Yes the homepage links are hideous. I know I'll use orange for links.
