That story doesn't reflect too well on Musk either.
Based on the rest of the article, I get the feeling Thiel is trolling because he can, and I wouldn't take his stories at face value: that said, making up stories involving other people isn't usually advisable. It may very well be exaggerated, though?
Edit: I didn't know the story had been mentioned previously, I take back my skepticism regarding that.
It does sound pretty bad, doesn't it? The guy certainly seems to have a problem with telling the truth. I think it's crazy to compare him to Musk, since Musk is actually extremely smart and knowledgeable about multiple areas of engineering. This other guy is just parotting the same lines, like "we are an advanced energy company that just happens to sell cars!". It's like the cargo-cult version of Tesla without any interesting technology or innovation. All that being said, I hope the author of this write-up has a good lawyer!
Musk is known to be dishonest, but something tells me the person making this claim is an ideological opponent of Musk. I would hesitate to believe this until more information.
To me, Musk comes across as an out-of-touch engineer who keeps trying to argue the technical case and insists it's the customer's fault.
I interpreted the blog post very differently. He says that the article is an outright premeditated lie, and presents an overwhelming amount of technical data to back up his claim.
As much as I hate Musk and want this story to be true, it smells awfully fishy to me. It's all based on a story told by a single unverifiable source to Platformer, not exactly the pinnacle of journalistic integrity. It could easily be a yarn spun by somebody who read Musk's tweets and invented a emperor's new clothes story around it. Or even somebody who does work at Twitter and exaggerated the situation.
I'm about as far from a Musk fan as it is possible to be, but this is so clearly a joke that it take a real effort to read some kind of evil intent into it (beyond Musk's normal "I'm trolling on Twitter" annoying nature).
But I've seen people claim this before - I'm curious if there is a source this keeps coming from?
