Without a reasonable estimate on how much money that will require that's still very vague.

TLDR: It won't cost that much but we really don't know how much it will cost.

Really? I've never heard a figure that high. I think the estimates currently are about $50B, spread out over 10 years or so.

When they say it'll cost $2b I think that's in addition to what's already being spent.

I find it quite worrying that this cost is not disclosed, this makes me think it's higher than we assume.

Putting "actual" in quotes. Estimating the cost is insanely difficult.

it's cost? just several billions.

The cost as well as the duration of the process has been revised several times since 2011, and will be revised again in the decades to come. It is nonsense to put a definitive figure on it now. Or in 20 years.

Reading the article, it's unclear to me what the cost actually is?

It's going to cost hundreds of thousands or millions, won't it?

> We estimate it would cost over $13 billion

So basically it's less than what the U.S. Federal Government spends in one day (FY2021 spending totalled $6.83tn). Unrealistic.

That number isn't really convincing coming from the project that was initially expected to cost $1B and over time ballooned to $10B.

Estimate for what the cost is going to be, initially and eventually?

In this specific case the estimate is likely a vast underestimation of the cost of work.

I've heard estimates along the lines of two person years of work, and $500 000.

For the lazy, this would require an ongoing investment of just over $40,000 currently.

I feel like this cost is being badly underestimated.

There is the definite possibility that it actually costs something like $69 billion, in fairness.

You don't. It costs at least a few billion dollars.

Lets be realistic, probably a 6'ish figure sum to get the bureaucracy completed. Still, peanuts.
