Are you saying that you use Git instead of Mercurial these days?

Not necessarily implied by you; just checking.

False. Git has improved, but Mercurial is still more friendly. The thing git has going for it is so many people use it and there is lots of help just a google search away.

And you will need help.

I find mercurial (I referred to that above as Hg) to be more or less the same as Git. Their CLI commands are very very similar.

What specifically are you complaining about here?

I'm using git because that's what I ran into first, but mercurial seems to be nicer from that point of view.

Really? Git and Mercurial seem about the same to me. Maybe I don't get down deep enough into the features?

Anything Git does that Mercurial doesn’t? I wonder if I’m missing out sticking to hg.

Why do you prefer Git to Mercurial? I've only used Mercurial.

Does that mean you were going from hg to git? Any specific reason for that? Any opinion on the two?

(I've been using git for a little bit but wonder if Mercurial could be more powerful but less popular, and that I'd be missing out)

It's just because you've been using Git for too long. Mercurial is much easier to use if you're not exposed to Git.

I wish I knew what you are talking about- it sounds useful. I use mercurial- I've never used git.

I've used Mercurial. It sucks compared to Git. And not because I can't use it on GitHub.

I dunno, I recently switched from ~4 years of using git to mercurial, and I am finding mercurial massively easier to use.

Mercurial is really nice, IMO. I always preferred it over Git due to the well thought out CLI. Unfortunately, it's usage hasn't seemed to catch on outside of a few (Sun/Java).

Git keeps getting better, and I'd be hesitant to put anything new on Mercurial at this point. The tooling just doesn't seem to be keeping up any more.

In my understanding it's the opposite, that Mercurial is effectively a subset of Git. But I was never a Hg user.

Git was helped by Github, and being a requirement for Linux development.

Otherwise I might be enjoying Mercurial nowadays.

You would be correct. I've been using Git longer than Mercurial, but I feel that I have a better grasp of how to use Mercurial. That said, Git is exponentially more powerful in my experience. I'm rather enjoying getting to know it.

Spoken like a true mercurial enthusiast? :)

I have used git on the command line since day 1. It really isn't that hard.

But why are they using Mercurial and not Git? I want to what are the advantaged for them to choose Hg.

I think many mercurial users would disagree with you about git.

Honestly, Mercurial is just better than Git -- the only reason I switched away from it is because Github. Constantly contemplating switching back.
