That's really cool! Thanks for making this website, it's absolutely useful, it might save a lot o projects. I can tell that because I have myself posted on Show HN and my submission never made it past the /shownew. Probably because it was not that interesting to HN's audience, but I can imagine how many really cool projects end up buried in there.
If you have any suggestions I'd like to hear them.
As for searching for projects, it's certainly tough to find them, I'd say HN new page has a lot that get overlooked. Reddit sometimes but harder to find IMO. It would certainly be nice if there was somewhere for people to purely post their projects or if HN had some type of filtering.
How hard could it be to make something like that? Want to give it a go?
Just wanted to thank everyone for posting their stories. I had no idea that Show HN could have that strong of a impact on people's side projects.
I'm working on something right now, but was fully expecting it to not get any attention and just be something fun for me to work on. Now I'm thinking it could probably use a bit more polish, because maybe there is a way for it to gain visibility.
Exactly. Many "Show HNs" never make it to the homepage, so I launched this subreddit to focus just on sharing and receiving feedback on those type of projects. If you subscribe to r/SideProject, you will be able to keep track of these projects.
Wow, thanks so much! I appreciate it! When the site first launched in February, someone submitted it HN and it didn't receive any traction as well. :( Maybe someday!
Protip: add Show HN: to your submission title - it's the community standard for projects you personally created and will help it get picked up by various aggregators of hn projects.
I am very new to HN, only learning about things here...
I actually could not understand how to showcase a project. So the the first submission was a mistake. I could not delete it either. So I experimentally posted another.
Thank you a lot for visiting my projects. Your advice was really helpful.
Great Work! Just browsed through it and it looks quite promising.
I highly encourage you to submit it to HN as a "Show HN: ..." (instead of being buried in a comment) and solicit feedback. Projects like this deserve more and better recognition.
