It seems like Google decides what to show by IP address - not sure if it based on history of queries from that IP address or based on location of IP address. The same query from my college's day work (just a couple of miles away) gives different results.
Since they do content based filtering (sending a RST if they don't like the contents of your packet) the actual IP address of the server returning search results is irrelevant.
It may be that Google uses location information from your IP address, which, for the Microsoft servers running the competition, is in Redmond. If you search "what is my ip address" in the competition, Google's results show "Your public IP address is 131.253.25.46" (or something similar). This is a Microsoft IP in Redmond. Interestingly, a reverse DNS query gives msnbot-131-253-25-46.search.msn.com as a domain name for this IP.
I remember seeing this blog post and the updated docs suggest they no longer reveal your IP but enable WARP and visit https://www.whatismyip-address.com (uses Cloudflare) and you’ll see your actual IP.
