As retarded as this question could be? Why not just use Ffmpeg? It's the ultimate tool for such tasks.

Oh man this is awesome! It's surprise to see we could use FFMPEG for this purpose and it works so well!

Don't they simply use ffmpeg for that?

ffmpeg is what you are looking for.

You can also use ffmpeg to do this, but figuring out the correct command line options is not easy.

Oh ok, makes sense. I'll look more into FFmpeg, thanks.

Thanks! Will make a note of that: I was afraid the answer would have to be ffmpeg (as it so often is with video). Was hoping for something neater, but I guess I should just be grateful for ffmpeg.

Or just use ffmpeg-python.

or ffmpeg

I would try QuickTime or ffmpeg.

ffmpeg would be a better tool for that. Handbrake too I think, if you prefer a GUI.

Isn't this overkill? You can get the exact same result with FFMPEG and a single shell command.

Seems like a solution in search of a problem.

ffmpeg is your friend for media files, in case anyone gets ideas.

Indeed, I did this in the past through ffmpeg. Great tool!

Or ffmpeg.

Same with ffmpeg

I wish there was one for ffmpeg....

wait maybe there is one?

edit: no there isn't

ffmpeg could be the underlying package for that alternative.

and tbf I'm finding ffmpeg very efficient for the kind of editing that I do, and I barely scrape the surface.

Or ffmpeg (with 'copy' codec) or mkvtoolnix

I just use ffmpeg

There are a number of GUI frontends for ffmpeg if that is what you are looking for.
