They didn't change the title from a fake-news title with the 'Digital coins may be on the verge of going mainstream' story. 15 hours ago!

I think the mods are on holiday.

sort by: page size:

No; it was renamed to the proper title of the story 'The Face Behind Bitcoin' - still there towards the top with over 400 comments. (Postition 11 right now)

It was, but a mod changed it to the subtitle. That's a standard practice when an article's title is baity and its subtitle less so. Unfortunately this time the subtitle was misleading.

The real problem though is that the article itself is pretty fluffy, below the author's usual standard. I don't think there's much to gratify intellectual curiosity here, or news that there's a cryptocurrency craze. All this has been discussed on HN well past the point where we just recycle.

Admins, could you correct the headline to say “crypto currency website”?

admins: imo this post should not be penalized because it includes bitcoin in the title. This is a pretty huge milestone and deserves some time on the front page.

It's both Europe and eastern US timezones are at work so it's relatively peak hours, and its a story involving a (potentially) huge crypto scandal. It doesn't surprise me that it's gained a bunch of attention.

Now I don't think the story itself is real, but I don't think it's made it to the frontpage by gaming HN with bots or something

They did. Here's a picture:

And yes the website has changed the title.

it's bitcoin, not sure why they didn't put that in the title

Clickbait headline – the coin is not, in any sense of the word, “found”.

Sorry about the typo. Sadly the update button does not appear to let me update the title.

Trying to get more people to actually try out crypto currencies, rather than blog about them.

This is one of the best "We're not thinking critically about cryptocurrency" articles I've read.

What's more surprising is it didn't get flagged to death. Maybe because the title isn't attracting attention?

I suppose you are new here, last year there was a post titled: "today is the first day without a bitcoin article on the first page".

If I counted correctly, the front page currently has 2 crypto stories and 28 non-crypto stories.

Should probably wait until it's over 8% cryptocurrency content before renaming.

> Recommend changing the title to Bitcoin/Ether

The SEC commented before that Bitcoin is not a security, so the Bitcoin related part is not news.

That's really stretching for "news".

It's clearly been put there on purpose. I would guess as damage control, so that people have some hope that they might eventually recover their coins

It doesn't mean anything on its own

Also, this post was originally titled "CoinDL enables Bitcoin purchases in seconds (link to eBook example)" so your post was more on-topic than it seemed. Today I learned, titles can be renamed by somebody else on Hacker News.

Does anyone have a mainstream news link to this? I don't trust coin-related news sites not to be involved in hyping things.

This is not crypto news, but cryptocurrency news.

In all fairness it is 'Hacker News' and not 'Tulip News' or 'Snakeoil Today', so more than one high ranking altcoin story is not going to happen here.

Regarding the coin in question, nothing to see:

The usual decline into failure in record time.

The submitted title was "Australia to make bitcoin payments above $10k illegal", but a moderator changed it to the article title, in accordance with the site guidelines: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.
