ugh ... ontrac deliveries are always late and always results in calls to my phone asking where my house is or something else.

Oh man. I live on Market too. OnTrac has done that same exact thing before, and sometimes I only discover it because someone passing on the street or a neighbor rings my doorbell to let me know I have a box outside. They also don't seem to be able to read, as they will accidentally deliver packages to xx30 when we're xx20 and vice versa.

I hate them so much. I go out of my way to leave terrible feedback for shipping on every OnTrac package I get at this point. Their reps keep telling me they're not going to do it any more and still it's such terrible service that I would cancel Prime membership if it wasn't for most packages being delivered by UPS/FedEx/USPS.

Cannot say enough bad things about OnTrac. They routinely throw packages at the end of our driveway instead of leaving at the porch like everyone else does.

The end of the (long) driveway is treed so sometimes we are literally hunting in the woods for our package after an OnTrac delivery.

OnTrac is the worst, in Palo Alto the Ontrac guys would drop off every single package they had from Amazon at our Apartment Leasing office after they were closed, so you'd often find 5+ packages sitting on the doorfront in the evening, instead of delivering the packages to the apartment locations (which are clearly labeled and very public)

Now in Oregon I ordered winter tires, Ontrac marked them delivered on the delivery date but never actually dropped them off, later and they decided to deliver 4 days later once I complained to the Shipper.

It's all anecdotal but the moment I see anything delivered by Ontrac I just assume it has a 50/50 chance of being actually delivered.

OnTrac is the only company where I've had to call dispatch and request that they put a note on our address saying not to throw packages over the 10-foot gate onto hard concrete steps.

And I had to do that 3 times before they actually stopped.

It's definitely a regional thing. For us UPS is awful- we live on "first" street and they constantly deliver our packages to the same house number only on "second" street.

Nothing is worse than finding out a package was shipped with OnTrac though.

Yup...

Ontrac lies on their track. Had a package get reported as delivered one day, but it actually arrived the next morning. I happened to actually be leaving my apartment right as the guy was walking up. I really wanted to ask him why the tracking reported the package already delivered when it wasn't, but I had to get to work and didn't have the time.

That doesn't match my experience at all. The Prime same-day delivery here on the SF Peninsula almost always comes via OnTrac. They drop stuff off and run, and don't wait for or expect a tip.

The worst is that they don't tell you when the package will be delivered. It could be at any time during the day. Usually when I got out to buy bread, or when I'm taking a shower.

DPD is the worst. They almost returned my package to the origin because they couldn't call me to deliver once, I asked why couldn't they knock, ring the doorbell or leave a notice and while trying to excuse themselves they accidentally told me the number they tried to call - it was the package shipping number.

USPS does this in my area. I'll frequently get packages that are "out for delivery" switch to "delivered" at around 7:30 - 7:45 PM or so. Then they'll show up the next day.

My FedEx driver used to call me 5-10 minutes before delivery. Was perfect to not miss a delivery due to being in the shower/down to the corner store for bread/etc. Or if I wasn't home he wouldn't even have to attempt the delivery.

Then they removed the drivers' cell phones as a "cost saving measure", and then the driver instead had to drive out to my place 2-3 times to make a delivery, wasting his time.

They often call at dispatch time to ensure you’re there to accept delivery. They don’t want to drive out, only to have to return the appliance because nobody was home.

My experience is the opposite; I always get fedex and ups packages on time, but my local usps branch frequently delivers late and often claims they attempted to deliver a package when I was home and nobody knocked or rang the doorbell.

OnTrac recently declared, apropos of nothing, that the package they "guaranteed delivery" for was undeliverable, and that (according to their online tracking) they'd try again the next day. They didn't. The tracking didn't update for the next two days. They delivered my package the day after I called them to complain -- the guy on the phone told me "we had some staffing issues".

I’ve had several occurrences where a delivery person would get all the way to my house, park on my street, call my phone, and if I didn’t answer, just drive away. I don’t think it’s always about the mileage, sometimes the driver is just lazy and wants any excuse to not have to do their job.

(It’s happened with a package delivery, as well as a washing machine installation. In the latter case it was Home Depot, when I finally got ahold of them they said it was my fault for not answering the phone and that I had to reschedule for 2 weeks out, meanwhile I didn’t have a working washing machine. I cancelled the order instead, went to Lowe’s and had a washer in a few hours.)

Is this an apartment thing? I don't receive calls for deliveries. US, live in a house.

I don’t mind text notices, but it will always have a higher latency than ringing my doorbell. The best though is getting alerts about a delivery and then going on a scavenger hunt to find the package. Will it be on the front porch? Will it be tucked behind a bush? Maybe I left my garage door open so the driver helpfully left it there...

I wish they'd call for directions. Instead they go to the wrong place, can't find the house, and return back. The next day, they do it again. And again. The managers said they have no control over it. That's not a delivery service. That's just idiots with a truck wasting gas.

I think I can echo having a list package from my mailbox vs front door and it has everything to do with FedEx/Ontrac/UPS leaving the box at my front door.

One of my favorites is the recommended carrier of Monoprice, Norcon, that emails you a photo of the delivered package once delivered.

Ontrac is a west coast delivery service, and from what I can tell they keep prices low by using mid-90s beater white minivans with a company logo magnet and issuing their employees a polo T uniform.
