Thanks, this is the one I was thinking of. Couldn't remember his obscure nickname. I remembered the capture rate in the child pornography group wrong, but the point stands :)

sort by: page size:

So wait. Is this guy actually a child pornographer, or does he simply run an anonymizing service which is incidentally used to distribute child porn? The first would appear to me to be just, the second would be a perversion of justice with a good pretext.

so he was both the perpetrator, and victim of child pornography. That sounds reasonable

Coincidentally had child porn on his machine.

I read about a child porn guy on the dark web once, he was an auzzie I think. He always said some strange greeting on every post. He would say hiyas.

They found Facebook posts where some dude said hiyas, did some police work and got him.

Found an article: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-36437856

This isn't quite the same, but validates the point you are making for sure.

Article is on a convicted internet child porn collector and a neo-nazi troll.

Nuts. He sexually abused multiple children and distributed pictures of this, but spent less than five years in jail and is now out.

If you read the article, the headline is a confused mess.

He was putting other kid's faces on existing child porn using common face swap software, and distributed the modified stuff as if it was real, including details of the kids who the faces come from.

So, hes a pedophile who engaged in harming children within the definition of the law, not some guy who produced whole-cloth fictional victimless works using some sort of GPT model (ie, things we actually call AI; we do not call face swapping software AI).

We're talking about someone who allegedly shared his illegal porn habits. Hasn't been convicted yet.

The story of the "Wanted List" guys might be of interest: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.11/porn_pr.html

I've seen news about child porn allegations in the UK that usually lead to nowhere in the latest years, mostly because of some credit card issues. I remember it happening with Pete Townshend (from The Who) and Robert Del Naja (from Massive Attack), plus some football player whose name I can't remember.

The article is indeed very confusing about the charges aginst that person. Is he directly actively involved in child porn or is he only the owner of a tor hosting site ?

/b/ has gotten a dude to admit that he had sexual feelings for children and then send them a picture of his penis. I don't remember the rest of the details at the moment, but he did end up being convicted.

If I remembered his name, I'd grab the source right now, but I'm not about to go searching for this while at work. Anyone recall his name?

'course they got him with child pornography

Kristof’s follow-up article: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/09/opinion/pornhub-news-chil...

He accomplished a lot in a week!

Written by a confessed child pornographer as well! http://yaledailynews.com/blog/2001/12/07/fine-print-redux-be...

Very interesting story. He has been outed later as a child sex offender (http://barristerblogger.com/2017/08/09/unfortunate-silencing...).

I don't know about the child pornography claim, but the rest of it seems to check out.

The user revealed their name in an interview here: https://www.fastcompany.com/3026860/a-brief-rundown-of-the-s...

According to one of the sources linked in a sibling comment, this user was arrested for domestic violence. A quick look at their user profile shows they are the top mod of r/garland, which isn't far from where the arrest occurred.

He was well known as an open source evangelist and as a helpful guy.

But he was also known as "sexual predator" who harassed young, underaged girls, see https://twitter.com/twena/status/1495537875651371012

I don't know if it is appropriate to make a dedication to someone like this.

I came across this today and thought it was worth sharing. This is (allegedly) the Webhostingtalk account of Eric Marques, the founder of Freedomhosting, who was arrested by the FBI 11 months ago for "facilitating child porn":

It's always fun to peer into the posting history of someone who has become the subject of a major news story (like John Koum promoting Whatsapp on Flyertalk in 2009 [2]).
