Thanks, this is the one I was thinking of. Couldn't remember his obscure nickname. I remembered the capture rate in the child pornography group wrong, but the point stands :)
So wait. Is this guy actually a child pornographer, or does he simply run an anonymizing service which is incidentally used to distribute child porn? The first would appear to me to be just, the second would be a perversion of justice with a good pretext.
If you read the article, the headline is a confused mess.
He was putting other kid's faces on existing child porn using common face swap software, and distributed the modified stuff as if it was real, including details of the kids who the faces come from.
So, hes a pedophile who engaged in harming children within the definition of the law, not some guy who produced whole-cloth fictional victimless works using some sort of GPT model (ie, things we actually call AI; we do not call face swapping software AI).
I've seen news about child porn allegations in the UK that usually lead to nowhere in the latest years, mostly because of some credit card issues. I remember it happening with Pete Townshend (from The Who) and Robert Del Naja (from Massive Attack), plus some football player whose name I can't remember.
The article is indeed very confusing about the charges aginst that person. Is he directly actively involved in child porn or is he only the owner of a tor hosting site ?
/b/ has gotten a dude to admit that he had sexual feelings for children and then send them a picture of his penis. I don't remember the rest of the details at the moment, but he did end up being convicted.
If I remembered his name, I'd grab the source right now, but I'm not about to go searching for this while at work. Anyone recall his name?
According to one of the sources linked in a sibling comment, this user was arrested for domestic violence. A quick look at their user profile shows they are the top mod of r/garland, which isn't far from where the arrest occurred.
I came across this today and thought it was worth sharing. This is (allegedly) the Webhostingtalk account of Eric Marques, the founder of Freedomhosting, who was arrested by the FBI 11 months ago for "facilitating child porn":

It's always fun to peer into the posting history of someone who has become the subject of a major news story (like John Koum promoting Whatsapp on Flyertalk in 2009 [2]).
