Easily one of his best bits and he did it on a talk show.

He's a great speaker.

A great example (but unannotated) of his off-beat delivery is this segment of one of his shows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngGdtqd71d0

I love how at around 06:15 he takes a snack break right in the middle of his talk.

I never dove too deep but always liked him a lot, and I have to agree his delivery was exceptional. I knew about 10% of the way in this was a shaggy dog joke, but he kept me second guessing that the whole time. And he had such a dopey style of speaking, like he was just as surprised and amused by what he was saying as if he was out of body listening to himself. Which is totally disarming when done well.

I agree that he is great at talking.

The guy is an amazing speaker. Look at his body language, his build-up and his timing. A lot of people could learn from that.

If this is the case, it makes a lot of sense. He was dressed like the lead singer of a band, cussed a lot and was very candid. None of those are a knock on him, he's awesome and it was definitely one of the best talks.

Always made me smile when he finished off a debate with the "We've barely got our trousers off" line.

He uses the more interesting "One thing in every one of my speeches will be true" technique. Makes for entertaining press conferences.

He's normally very charismatic when speaking/being interviewed, so in that context, it's pretty funny.

Yeah, there are so many fantastic lines in that video. The part where he calls out the "swearing is unnecessary" argument is probably my favorite.

Yeah, it's so good he said it twice.

We know he can't. Talking points from talking heads on TV

It's most interesting to hear what he's talking about and how he can just keep talking and talking and talking. He'll repeat himself and then say it again in a third way, it's great.

yeah he is so entertaining as a speaker, even in his older years - sometimes cheesy but I also have a soft spot for that

He did the entire Q&A out of character as Colbert -- with the T. Was a nice juxtaposition to his prepared remarks which were obviously in character.

What is also really impressive is his speaking skills.

I’ve listened to him speak, it was amazing. He came across like someone who could barely pass biz school.

This.

For those who haven't watched the video, his whole talk is tongue-in-cheek. The flavor of the talk is the same as the flavor of his writing; both worthwhile.
