See http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1583135; not surprisingly based on your and adam_lowe accounts the Feds have filled a motion to drop all charges (I hope with prejudice). See the link for a bit more editorializing by various people including me, but when you compare this to their usual behavior it's very clear the Feds never had a case.

Dude, did you read the article:

>"The pending case has been dismissed. No formal charges will be filed," read the office's statement.

Those charges were dropped, iirc. It seems quite possible that that's not actually what happened.

There were no charges filed in this case. The prosecutor correctly ascertained that the allegations were false and the whole thing was a waste of taxpayer money.

I don't think this should be taken into consideration, murder-for-hire charges were dropped. And this whole situation was created by federal agents misconduct.

There are no federal or criminal charges at all. This is all civil.

The charges were dropped.

The charges were dropped.

Charges were dropped.

> Those charges were dropped

Dropping charges doesn't mean it's not true, just that the prosecutor did not want to pursue the case, in light of other prosecution available.

The charges were dropped because the warrants could not be served.

No charges were filed and likely never will be. This is merely a list of complaints.

No charges were ever filled here.

And those charges were dropped -- they weren't found guilty.

I am surprised that the Feds didn't go after them or take an interest.

There is not even an assertion, no charges were ever filed against the accused in the US.

Yea, that's not going to hold up to a federal investigation.

It feels like they're dropping the charge because there's no reasonable prospect of a conviction. After twenty years all the employees, and records, for the video shop have gone. There's no evidence.

This does make me wonder how many other similar cases are floating around.

Your claim was the charges didn't stick, which doesn't seem accurate

There were crimes involved here. They just just weren't worth the federal prosecutor's time to take to court.
