As if anybody would disclose the actual reason why they have left Google...

The person who wrote:

"I will no longer be using anything from Google by choice. "

Google is the only one to be mentioned in the link (in the screenshot), so I doubt Google is the one that left.

so that I could criticize Google. Actually, I left so that I could talk about the dangers of AI without considering how this impacts Google. Google has acted very responsibly.

You can read Claire's reasons for leaving Google in her own words here: https://medium.com/@GoogleWalkout/why-a-googlewalkout-organi...

Exactly. An anecdote (not my own) https://mtlynch.io/why-i-quit-google/

Yes, but you know _the_ rule of leaving Google - one must always publish an article about it to ensure that the whole world is aware ;)

Yet another post of someone that feels the need to explain why they had to quit Google. To me it looks like another level of narcissism.

> people will just not understand why I quit "major search engine"

Don't know how you got this idea. No-one will care.

Surprised no one has mentioned Doug Bowman's reasons for leaving Google, which seems in part because of extensive use of A/B testing. I don't really know enough to comment on it but it seems relevant: http://stopdesign.com/archive/2009/03/20/goodbye-google.html

I think a Google employee was tasked to remove the search engine choice and hardcode google search into Android.

He didn't want his name to be attached as the person who did this (and we can assume it was some sort of protest to the change) so he committed this as "Anonymous Coward".

Also "Anonymous Coward", as others pointed out, was the way Slashdot referenced guest comments.

"why I left google to join grab"

nobody gives a shit! why are people spamming the internet with these "why I did this" articles? who cares why YOU did something!? we all do that we feel is best for us, it's called life, I don't want to know your every move; this isn't twitter!

A fantastic blog post that dives into the same problem: https://mtlynch.io/why-i-quit-google

It inspired me to quit years later and write my own version: https://suketk.com/why-i-quit-google

Jonathan Rochelle repeated wryly and with a smile, "Yes, time to go. Google is here,"

WTF? Is Google the mob or something? Almost seems like the next line should have been, "And I was never seen or heard from again."

But I made no claims about its relevance to what led to Google forcing him out.

Can you respond to what I said, instead of something else?

Maybe it's a play on words, initially as the author participating in the act of "google quitting" but also meant to be interpreted as google itself quitting being the google it was.

On the bright side: if this was Google, I wouldn't be surprised to see his account terminated immediately without giving an exact reason.

Robots.txt. I think it's interesting that you say that removing yourself from Google is the same as "disappearing from the web" implying that the web is Google. It's not. Perhaps they should use alternative forms of outreach, something I am considering with my company.

Dude. You did NOT leave Google in good standing.

Is anyone still surprised by this behaviour from a post-Demore Google?
