yep that would be disastrous, but then I do hope they find a way to mediate the two extreme factions, one that wants the white to pay for some past sin, and one that does not believe they did any thing wrong to the blacks, as S.A future depends on this.
I feel like you are being a bit too optimistic in terms of what it would lead to. It definitely would do something to race relations, but perhaps not what you wanted, especially in the short term.
Hint: it might end up leading to an uptick in antisemitism.
'The narrative' doesn't unconditionally control what people do. There are also multiple narratives out there and people get to subscribe to the one they want. If someone builds up an income-based coalition then the idea of 'systemic racial injustice' will fade away in favour of looking for more money.
It will happen eventually though, because you can't unmix races. Which is why the Nazis, the KKK etc were/are so worked up about miscegenation, "the annihilation of the white race", etc.
I'm worried that this will just breed deeper resentment among a socially fractured lower class that would be stronger were it more unified. I'm white though, I know what my thoughts on these issues are worth.
I'm not so certain that public lynchings for homosexuality wouldn't occur. On the other hand, there's plenty of people on the other side of the fence who'd see conservatives jailed and beaten (They'd not sully their hands themselves, just require the increasingly large nanny-state to do it) for disagreeing with their concept of 'progress'.
Maybe we just need to open the floodgates and let these factions kill each other off.
If they pursue this genuinely, they'll be perpetually flip-flopping between states - it won't take long under this leadership for the hard-done-by minority to change to white/male, and then 'reverse sex/racism' would be sex/racism towards non-white/female...
My (black) spouse has talked with me about their thorough support of this idea. They think there ought to be white student unions, white history month, white studies courses, etc. I wouldn't mind seeing this happen, if white folks could do it without hate or exclusion of others (which probably requires acknowledging and destroying white supremacy).
As I said yesterday in our conversation, we are in agreement there but I'm not quite sure it solves the problem. A "good start" isn't a solution to the problem and even the "good start" requires enforcing some form of racial governance model otherwise its just another county of the United States.
The situation is at the very least complex and will likely require a "morally impure" solution.
Think about how many white Americans will be able to see that this is wrong, when they think anti-Blackness is a matter of culture and assume people who speak African-American Vernacular English are less educated.
When we have a mix of problems, we can build large enough anti-discrimination coalitions to make none of those discriminatory beliefs advantageous to hold.
Good question, but although I'm too stupid to come up with an answer, I hope there is one, because the whole majority-exploiting-the-minority scenario sounds awful.
This is exactly the problem. Have /you/ contemplated what would happen if you applied that reasoning to any other group (e.g. Jews, Blacks, Oracle employees)?
We are going through something akin to the KKK era of the South - protecting the culture and all that. How and to what extent this gets settled would have immense significance.
The fact that you speak with such a reverence about racial segregation is truly frightening.
The fact that you think that would solve anything, despite centuries of evidence against it is even worse.
You will never be able to fix the past, nothing will ever bring back those people and they will never get a chance to live a just and fair life, let alone a happy one. It is unjust that it happened the way it did, it is sad, it is inexcusable, but it is also already done.
The only hope we have, and if we owe them anything we owe them this, is to create a better future by not repeating the mistakes of the past.
But instead you are doubling down on them. Dividing everyone again. Putting everyone in boxes and forcing them to give up their lives and dreams for them. Opening vicarious wounds and making people find a hate inside of them that was never there in the first place. And then wonder why the pushback.
I realize you think you have all the answers and that is why you speak with so much superiority from up high above the rest of us so I’ll never be able to change your mind, but for others that might be reading this, be very skeptical every time someone asks you to forget yourself and become a label, as that is what brought us here. You are better than a label, you are much much more than that.
My take is that this "progress" will eventually end in internal ruin, because there will be no "there" there. Pursuing sexual and racial identity for its own sake, under "justice" or any other name, is a recipe for disaster.
