Per a SWAT officer - his team has not been activated, which means the situation is under control. Apparently an attempted murder/suicide. Female shooter. 10-20 shots fired and multiple people being treated for gunshot wounds. No news as to what happened to the shooter.
We still don't know who fired that shot, and there were no reports of shots fired otherwise. Given the scope of what happened, a single lethal shot fired is kind of a miracle. And shocking given how many injuries and deaths we saw from protests earlier in the year which were under far better control, with far more law enforcement involved.
Until now I hadn't seen anything confirming there was an actual shooter. Looks like the police and Lavrusik are both now confirming that there's an actual shooter.
Strange how absolutely chaotic and unknown these situations are. I'm used to knowing exactly what's happening nearly immediately in most news situations, but shootings still remain outside that scope. Explosions, too.
“A male came to the front door,” Livingston said. “As he came to the front door, one of our officers discharged his weapon.”
Livingston didn’t say if the man, who was 28, had a weapon when he came to the door, or what caused the officer to shoot the man. Police don’t think the man fired at officers, but the incident is still under investigation, he said. The man, who has not been identified by police, died at a local hospital.
This seems quite unusual. Looking at details, Wichita KS has a population of 380K. Perhaps they don't see much of hostage situation and were ill prepared for it. Would be interesting to see the results of investigation. Also there were studies that looked at how stress could result in these kind of scenario. IIRC, one of the triggers were being on a suicide watch/dispatch call.
This is only a matter of time until someone is killed... It looks like it almost happened on January 15 when a victim shot home invaders that happened to be SWAT making a no knock entry.
