Enforced by who? Fines collected by who?

What happens if a site operator in Iowa just ignores it.

sort by: page size:

It doesn't just get fined, it also gets ordered to stop. If it refuses, I guess the usual mechanism the state uses to make them comply apply.

What penalties would someone face if they ignore this particular regulation?

I didn’t see any listed on the site. But are we talking a few thousand in fines, or prison time?

Not really.

Fines aren't a one-off and everything is forgotten. If they don't establish compliance, they can be fined again continually, with increasing amounts.

It will depend on if the enforcement agencies follow through.

The process doesn't stop with the fine, they're still required to become compliant, and further violations can lead to more fines.

Not punished, just asked that they collect sales tax instead of relying on customers to pay use tax.

stringent penalties for misuse, including a large fine.

How exactly does a non-government entity impose a fine?

When a fine is issued they will also need to become compliant so it's not just a matter of paying the fine and then carrying on as usual.

However enforcement is indeed severely lacking as this article describes.

>may be subject to fines or enforcement action

What does this mean? What's "enforcement action?"

Fines do increase in case of continued noncompliance.

Just a small fine and remedial action to resolve the violation. This also happens to traditional businesses.

It's not heavily enforced. The fine is like $5k IIRC, they don't seek out job postings and only take tips, and the first breach by a company is only a warning.

Those practices are sanctioned and enforced by the state (with huge fines)

What would the penalty for non-compliance here be?

Fines.

If they don't comply within three months, they start getting another copy of this fine every day until they do.

Which is to say, the punitive fines are not enough for them to not play games with the rules... but once they're caught they do have to fall in.

This demonstrates the need for constant enforcement diligence by regulators: These companies can and will continue to flagrantly disregard the law unless regularly checked.

I think they just issue a fine for things like violating lockdown and mask laws.

Any company in violation will be given the chance to make themselves compliant before fines are levied. The fines were never going to start right away.

I'd like to know that as well.

Where do all those fines go?

No.

First, why in the world do you want Meta to get into a habit of ignoring the law of the land?

Second, fines for non-compliance to court orders are not one off events. The fine is set with the purpose of compelling action. If the action doesn't happen, higher fines will follow.
