Yep; as Magic Leap goes longer and longer without publicly providing any details about their product I've slowly grown more and more skeptical.
On the other hand though, you and I aren't the ones they have to convince; for now they only have to convince investors. And so far, investors seem to be pretty convinced. Whether those beliefs are well-founded is impossible for us to determine one way or the other, since again, we haven't been provided with any information on Magic Leap's product.
If Magic Leap ever does release a product it won't matter how skeptical the general public is or isn't initially; the product will speak for itself.
I think that Magic Leap went on for years with just promises and marketing, and they never produced a demo or product. I guess they actually did release hardware a while ago, I didn't know. But for a long time it was just news about "Magic leap promises X" or "Magic leap raises money". But they didn't release a demo or product.
Gotta love it when the headline of their marketing website is a flat-out lie. Most people cannot, in fact, "get" a Magic Leap. It's not even being offered for sale to the public.
When lies this clumsy and big are evident this early in a company's history, the prognosis is poor.
I agree with you ! I know the words for many years (Magic Leap) but I can never remember their product or promise they offer, I spent a fair amount of time on line and reading the news. I've also "missed" their product offering.
After years of nothing to show and an astounding $1.8bn + in funding your expectations should have been very low. I mean, when has that ever worked out? If Magic Leap is still around in 5 years I'd be extremely surprised.
That's quite the stretch. Magic Leap only got buzz in the first place because a lot of famous people said they were the best thing since sliced bread, and Google Ventures gave them tons of money.
The main reason you don't hear much about them anymore is because they don't show anything.
Wow, talk about a tech news blind spot: I honestly though Magic Leap wasn't even around anymore. Last news I heard about them was they burned through $billions, their product woefully (almost fraudulently) failed to meet any of the hype they set out, they sold a handful of units, and then the company folded. How on earth are they still in business?
I'm skeptical, but the Magic Leap engineers I've met have been really confident that their tech is going to be a game changer (and of course wouldn't tell me anything about it ;)). Guess we'll see when they show their product publicly - it's weird that they've decided to stay stealth for this long.
