There will be optimal designs based on other design factors that need to be taken into account.

Why should it produce those designs? Are they in any known sense optimal?

And even those things need to be assessed in the context of a specific design.

Why is that an important design criterion?

Why do some designers think this is optimal?

Maybe someone will eventually take this into consideration in their design.

Why do they have to be designed?

Design implies some kind of planning. I think it's a result of different companies making decisions that optimize for the short term.

I'm not saying current designs are optimal. rather, the current designs already look so similar to each other that "looking different" can't be a valid reason for not optimizing them further. I already can't tell many of them apart unless I'm already familiar with the model.

Then it should be considered by designer.

Design considerations.

The fact there are so many options shows the fundamental design problem.

- No design is ever perfect

- There are many correct ways to do things

- It's all about constraints and trade offs

Indeed. Especially since design choices might have real world consequences.

I'd say the only limiting factor is what designers can imagine.

Yup. A big part of good design is making tradeoffs, which isn't really addressed hear.

Every design is meant to be used. The amount of space needed is relative to the problem.

Yeah, determining the requirements of a product you are attempting to produce ought not to be left to the end of design.

All three are very deliberately designed the way they are, and function well thanks to those designs. Good design is often "as little design as possible", as Dieter Rams' final principle for good design goes; avoiding overdesign is a merit, not a deficiency.
