Yeah. If we just reduced our meat consumption by somewhere between 50 and 75% we could feed the remainder off those sources and probably decrease the environmental impact of food production on net, except for cow's methane production.
I’m not pushy with this topic but as a species we could farm and consume much less animal meat. Not sure if that’s inline with what youre looking for but it would have an impact.
We're already doing that. Not gonna lie, we love meat, but understand it isn't the best choice for the planet, so far we've reduced our meat consumption about 50%.
We could also scale back our agriculture by reducing our dependence on animal products. There are a number of mass produced crops that go in large part to feed animals that we then turn into food at a net energy loss. But in general, we'd rather paint ourselves into this corner than eat our vegetables.
A carbon tax would help. We don't necessarily have to eliminate meat production, just make it expensive enough to reduce its use by a factor of 10 or so.
I know this is a sensitive topic with in the west but how about reducing meat consumption (esp red meat) so we cut down ghg emissions. plus more eco-friendly transportation like EVs & fewer flights for vacations.
as the saying goes an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
Eating less meat won't do anything, it's a fruitless endeavor that only makes vegetarians/vegans feel morally superior. Everyone in the US could stop eating meat, and it would only reduce emissions by a couple percentage points.
