There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots. That's the saying anyway.

As the saying goes in aviation: "There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots."

As someone said: "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old-bold pilots!"

That reminds me of something I heard once- "there are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots."

“There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots.”

There are old pilots, and bold pilots, but not too many old, bold pilots...

Something about there being old pilots and bold pilots, but very few old, bold pilots.

There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but no old bold pilots.*

*except Yeager.

“There are old pilots, there are bold pilots. There are no old bold pilots.”

A good pilot is skilled, but a skilled pilot isn’t always good.

There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots. Except until recently, Yeager, who passed late last year, RIP.

There are brave pilots and old pilots, but few brave old pilots...there may be a bit more to it than a reversion to the mean.

The pilots aren't inventing anything on each flight. If they fly the airplane exactly the same way every time, that's a good thing. Writing new programs is not like that.

I am a hang glider pilot in the US.

As the saying goes, “There are no bold and old pilots.” If flying and hang gliding teaches you anything, it is to take the right decisions within the framework of safety you have experience with. It’s a bit like knowing how to ride a bicycle, but you want to do a wheelie when it rains – not the right decision.

Circa 2022, the safety and community policing is strong enough to weed out non-safe pilots. I know pilots are as old as 80 years old and have been flying for 40+ years without incidents.

They need to fly to ensure that new pilots learn and older pilots remain polished. They don't need to blow up a pico balloon if that is what it was.

Well, there are also pilots who haven’t died yet.

Good point, they would've been the senior-most pilots back then so many have probably long retired.

Plus who wants to go back to land straight in a boring approach after you've done the checkerboard approach at Kai Tak? :-)

Or that pilots in general do not know how to fly anymore. /s

The pilots still do, though.

Seems like a weird selling point "we're as good as the pilots from 80 years ago!"

Senior pilots expect to have more choice in their routes and schedules. Junior pilots expect to have no choice.
