Once upon the time there was a thing called server side rendering.

"server side rendering", cool, I was doing that in 1995

This approach has a long history. Of course the rendering engine was running server-side.

That was mostly true before client side rendering.

> It was always there.

This article isn’t talking about server-side rendering, as one might have used the term 10–15 years ago (but not really before that, because it didn’t need a name before that, because client-side rendering wasn’t really a thing), but rather Server-Side Rendering, which is when you use client-side rendering tech, but run it on the server side (typically “as well”, but not quite necessarily).

Just like “server side rendering”, the kids didn’t know we started with server side rendering.

The funny thing is that they eventually circled back to server-side rendering. It just has a cool TLA now.

Server side rendering ftw

Server side rendering ftw

Aka server-side rendering

Ahh, yes, render side servering.

So... we're back to server-side rendering?

Server side rendering is very underrated.

Server side rendering for games.

Excuse-me but you're supposed to call that Server-Side Rendering now.

In my clueless ignorance, that was what I first thought the author was ranting about when they mentioned "server-side rendering"...

Server-side rendering will do that.

Actually server side rendering is comming, it's working in a hacky way, but it's promising.

That’s the beauty of client side rendering.

It's true! For details, just ask anyone you know who was evangelizing client-side rendering three years ago, they'll tell you all about it.
