Hah! Last week I was doing some research on a typeface I had found. I was getting visibly excited while looking at my screen. My partner looks up and asks what's got me worked up. I spent about 30 seconds explaining what I found and why I was nerd happy. The response? Cool [https://bit.ly/2sHXrH8]. Goes back to the book.

"For nerds, information sharing is the most highly valued form of communication possible."

I love geeks who find the same easter eggs. =]

It prints "Me Too." then "I love Geeksforgeeks". What is strange about this?

I wish HN was almost entirely nerdy out of the way awesome found things like this.

That part is one of the best dressing downs I've ever read on the internet.

That's a very unique nerd-snipe you just experienced. https://xkcd.com/356/

They're taking a page out of IBM's "Peace, Love, Linux" campaign. I think nerds are fairly easily appeased. There's nobody that seemed more borg-like than IBM a decade or two ago and they've won over the hearts of lots of geekier folk.

I love how often this comes up; whenever someone nerdy visits Montreal the first reaction to seeing those wing-dings is "I must know more!". Like this thread here: https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/81attendees/fEjDmtd8Kf...

Triumph of the Nerds is interesting, though your significant other is not likely to think so (unless they're a hacker as well)

or simply post it to HN and nerds will bite your head off 90% of the time just cuz :p

Yes! Not just computer nerds, but nerds of all kinds.

I want to read things by recipe nerds, not people trying to make money on ads.

I want to read about cars from car nerds and home repair from home repair nerds and writing from writing nerds.

I want to read things from people who share them for the pure joy of sharing them.

Update: I'm having a lot of fun exploring the relationships between "nerd," "geek," "dork," etc. in this demo. : )

it is extremely funny how credulous some tech enthusiasts are, especially around the Less Wrong world.

train LLMs on scifi, get something that produces scifi-related text suffixes.

Well said. This is especially useful to some of the nice geek/nerds. I'm printing it out and put it on the wall for a while.

I love this site. It feels quite geeky.

Now why does that not surprise me at all :)

I think you are in no danger whatsoever of losing your nerd card :)

At the risk of being yelled at: The Geek Atlas (http://geekatlas.com/)

I think this may be the simplest explanation for why geeks often have any particular quality, this one included:

Us nerds have long memories and archive important findings.
