It maybe few countries but many users

And also a lot of people outside the US uses SMS.

are you talking about individual users or the whole aggregate?

because if the former, then users from asia likely are largely outnumbering users from the USA

Fair, but I have friends on the west coast who were similarly impacted, while I am in the South. So it seems inaccurate to say it impacted a small number of users. Maybe compared to world wide, but I would imagine the US is the biggest market.

They launched in 7 countries before launching in the US. In the same year as they launched in the US they also launched in 4 other countries.

In 2012, after their "expansion" in the US they had five times as many paying users outside the US as in the US.


Yahoo mail is very very popular outside the US.

They are often mentioned in these context, along with Spotify, Adyen, SAP and a few others. It doesn't really fit the US-based narrative so is mostly ignored.

If half of them would work outside of the US, people would already be happy. DO’s usability goes down a lot if you don’t have a credit card (you literally pay to be able to pay), and Twilio is quite similar.

Over 80% of the new acquired users are international, not the in the US, where the percentage of Android is much higher. So it's definitely having an impact.

The downside for most social networks is that the revenue generated from non-US users is much lower than US.


The main problem of other markets outside the US is their propension to download only free apps.
