After the iAd fiasco, I don’t think Apple wants to go anywhere near in app ads.

Apple failed at in app advertising so badly years ago, I doubt they will go down that road again.

You are suggesting that Apple wouldn't touch ads, but that's exactly what they did with IAd

Not surprising, Apple can't be pleased that much of the revenue from ad-supported iPhone apps goes to Google via AdMob. I expect shortly after its introduction iAd will be the only permitted advertising mechanism in the app store.

Apple shut down iAd. That article isn't about Apple's ad business, although certainly some developers have in-app ads, but now they're moving away from iAd.

They're looking at search ads for apps in the app store, but that's pretty limited to just the store.

Apple had its own advertising platform called iAd that was abandonded a few years ago. Cynical me thinks that them disabling the IDFA could be a ploy for them to corner the adtech market for themselves.

They tried offering an ad service called iAd that would do things the "Apple" way. No one used it.

Apple already tried it’s own ad network (iAd). Success was limited and it was abandoned in 2016:

Now days, they still sell ads on the App Store, but don’t place ads in third-party apps.

Sounds like apple didn't want any competition for in-store ads

iAd was a failure because Apple wouldn’t give advertisers the user data they demanded and dictated the size and locations of ads.

But still, Apple’s ads are only in the News app and in paid placements in their App stores. It’s not like they have a widespread add platform like Google and Amazon.

interestingly iAds have been a huge disapointment. they could not reach critical mass of advertisers. And by Job's comment yesterday against ads on iCloud, it looks like they gave up on it

Apple’s own ad service is long gone and won’t come back (if some sanity is still left in Apple’s board). They’re just playing nice with some core partners.

They want that too [1] they just don't want to compete for it or deal with a "messy" internet. They've currently shut down their iAds product but I think it's likely they'll buy someone else if for no other reason that ads in mobile apps are a huge "hole" allowing revenue to escape their ecosystem.

Apple gets no money from in-app advertisements.

Are people actually asking Apple to get in the ad business? It’s already a step too far that they sell ads on the App Store.

Because they failed with it, everyone forgets iAd ( ads in the Apple way)

That sounds totally unlike Apple. Last time I checked, Apple made its billions by selling products and software, not ads.

They do have iAds, but they specifically designed those to be as unobtrusive as possible, and developers have to decide if they want to use them in their apps.

It is something the advertisers do not want to do, as it would nuke their service from Apple’s platform.

Yes. But there's a bit of a difference. Ads weren't barred from iOS apps. iAd was a way for Apple to jump in on the ad revenue that was already happening inside those apps. Now they're putting ads in their own products, which is a different kind of behavior.
