Chromium suddenly starts downloading a binary blob https://lwn.net/Articles/648392/

sort by: page size:

It happened to me on chrome on Windows on the front page. Kinda freaked me out as it started downloading a strange file immediately.

I've downloaded stuff from MEGA in the last week on a Chromium based browser, so I'm not sure what the problem is supposed to be here.

More specifically, for me: Chromium says "This webpage has a redirect loop".

Warning: the page is huge and managed to freeze my Chromium

I am using Brave, which is Chromium based, and I had no problem loading the article.

Sucks to hear you having that issue.

I've been getting that from a ton of sites. I'm not sure why it's happening nor have I dived in to find out. Wonder if it's a Firefox issue.

It's not the same issue, this one is about CSP. I don't have time to make a pretty mirror (and chromium can't show me the source anyway, it seems) but I had it loaded before it was down, so here's a pastebin of the contents:

Unfortunately that site seems to keep reloading forever (/e/ Browser which is a Chromium/Bromite fork). I haven't been able to check the original site though, so the issue might be present there as well.

It happens to me on Windows also, and the particular copy I was using is my sandboxed Chrome with no plugins (for sites I'm not sure of). It happened as the page was loading, I immediately got a DL requestor, and the same warning message. That pretty much had me closing the window ASAP.

Firefox or Chrome?

If Chrome, give vimium a try. I have no such issues with Chromium 57.0.2987.98 + vimium + ublock origin + umatrix. The only scripts running are served from '*.tv2.no', but even with blocking those the article loads fine, albiet without images.

umatrix: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/umatrix/ogfcmafjal...

ublock: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpa...

Thanks, what browser/OS are you on? I definitely don't have this experience. Sounds concerning though.

> your browser has to repeatedly download them on demand.

Mine downloaded it once, didn't notice it happening after that.

This webpage is causing Chrome to freak out for me, it keeps reloading, about 10 times a second and flickering. Anyone else?

EDIT: Seems to be the HTTPS Everywhere extension, trying to force an encrypted connection to Geek.net. Strange.

Abruptly ending with a RST packet causes a failed download in every browser except Chrome: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ieinternals/archive/2011/03/09/brows...

I was wondering if I had been IP banned or something. I can confirm this only happens on Firefox for me and that Chromium is working.

I've disabled all extensions, and the same thing happens. In fact, there's also a warning that "This site is attempting to download multiple files. Do you want to allow this?"

I'm on Mountain Lion, Chrome Version 23.0.1271.101

Edited to add: This happens on page load, before there is any interaction with the page.

Probably some dns caching, I just rebooted and am greeted by 'malware ahead' now.

ps: Mozilla Firefox 31.0a1 is ok with wired.com

Ironically, one of my caching extensions for chromium kept the site working just fine until I reloaded the extension...

xbox.com did this for me yesterday, and is still doing it. Works fine in Chromium, strangely enough. Looks like someone broke something in the web server.
