You talk to a plant at work?

Ah. I did not know I was talking to a plant. My bad.

I do not currently (yet?) talk to my plants; we use them as names to refer to the plant and to prescribe them personalities.

Talk to the plants! They'll tell ya!

Do you talk or whisper to them or is it to introduce them to friends or to other plants?

Some people are really friendly with plants, and the plants tell them how to do these things.

Damn plant halo effect biases. Ugly plants have great personalities if they'd try chatting with them.

Its literally what plants do.

Plant

Or perhaps we could tune in and learn to communicate with the plants.

This is an excellent presentation in the same thread.

Isn't it what plants do?

Meanwhile:

Ginkgo Tree: “Hey plants, how come no one told us this idea?”

Kentucky Coffee Tree: “Wait, what’s an animal?”

So maybe it makes sense to speak with your plants ; ) Anyway don't find it that surprising. Basically it seems a natural advantage to have such warning mechanism.

We know plants communicate with each other via chemicals. Perhaps we need a chemical -> sound translator.

Cleve Baxter did a lot of research on this, and his experiments were even featured on an episode of myth busters. His research indicated that plants can sense a humans intentions. He figured this out by attaching polygraphs to plants and then directing negative thoughts towards the plant (cutting, burning etc.). The polygraph then went haywire, but when he thought nice things about the plant the polygraph stayed normal.

Very cool. Coincidentally, I watched this fascinating talk by Suzanne Simard only yesterday, on how trees 'talk' to each other... http://www.ted.com/talks/suzanne_simard_how_trees_talk_to_ea...

You mean like what a plant does?

Isnt plant communication an active field of research ? I remember reading about how plants in a field can communicate changes in environment (like a bug infestation) with one another.
