Role playing is when you pretend to be other people, usually with along other people and a format. It is not a name for the trappings of Tolkien novels. Pretty sure that's the joke.

There are extensive skill trees and itemization choices. The roleplaying is choosing which skills and items you wish to use in your quest to vanquish demons.

Larp = live action role playing. Where you act as your character, as opposed to table-top role playing, where you say what your character does.

Larping. I've been playing Vampire the Masquerade Larps for a decade and I'm working on my own larp about the Huldufolk. Between the two I've gotten a lot of mileage out of being a larper who knows how to code and run servers.
