One I’ve heard is that at a conference someone asked him “what do you do?” to which he replied “I cast false pearls before real swine.”

I don’t know if it really happened, but it’s clear that a lot of people didn’t like him.

What I’ve heard from people who have presented to him is he liked to say “that’s the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever heard”

Yeah I think it wasn't just that. He's said a lot of crazy things over the years so nobody could really defend him by saying "he didn't exactly say that" because the response was always "ok fine but what about all these other creepy things he's definitely said?". Basically the final straw.

You might have more luck if you ask for an explanation about a specific thing he said, not the whole of what he said. He said a lot of things.
