Or make less money and produce a platform that isn't exploitative. Whatever. Seems reasonable. It'll all eat itself anyway, it'll be fun to watch.

What then? Just don't let them make money on the platform?

The 'real' question is how can we build an alternative platform that doesn't require you to try to 'win' by effectively screwing the people who actually use the stuff you build.

Agreed. It seems like every platform's goal is to ignore all rules and responsibility and grow large enough to become a toll road for an entire industry.

Well played. It is their platform, I don't see a problem in what they are doing. If someone doesn't like it, then use a different one.. (that is the narrative, right?)

So... create another new platform?

This is pointless.

Platforms will do what they want to do pushing the limits until they got class action or compliance penalty awakening. They'll pay fine then rinse and repeat.

Regardless, use them for what they good at.

DO NOT rely your business models or your income solely on them.

They see you, everyone and everything as a chance to use and abuse to squeeze maximum profits and discard.

Use them alike.

Nobody has to be laughing at anyone else, just saying that other platforms and ecosystems are also viable.

That's not the point... the point is, these platforms get large & controlling, and become the only game in town (by their nature, network effects and all), and people will get sick of playing the game.

Decentralized uncensorable platforms will take their place, funded by currency that cannot by blocked.

More importantly they want to own a platform which won’t make arbitrary rules that upends their entire business model.

Or perhaps we can take responsibly for ourselves and not use the ridiculous platform

I'd rather see more people using and contributing to the genuinely open platforms. (This is an old problem, going back decades.)

Part of it is a bit like an even older dynamic: "Why buy the cow, when you can have the milk for free?"

Doesn't have to be one thing. You can let there be a market of platforms. Just no profiteering, either directly or indirectly. Easier said than done, of course.

Also, shouldn't be .gov. Public benefit but not government-owned.

What's the problem? If you don't like it, go build your own platform right?

Commercial platforms are for suckers. Open platforms are huge wins.

With all respect, fuck this. We can build platforms that won't be enshittified, we just choose not to, and throwing our hands up and saying "oh well! guess it's human nature to make everything bad in the name of shareholder value!" is a cop-out.

Who cares? If the platform goes to shit, people will stop using it. In the meantime, it's a breath of fresh air in a stagnant space.

every platform starts this way. no one wants to use a platform that will actively cannibalize its customer base
