why would twitter do that?

sort by: page size:

Yeah but why would Twitter do that?

Twitter must be doing it on purpose for tweets that they don't like. That is the only logical explanation.

I don’t understand what this has to do with twitter

What does this have to do with Twitter?

Maybe Twitter did this for the free publicity.

IMO this is a bug to users of twitter, but a feature to twitter the for profit company. It encourages fuzzy communication, and usually the least charitable interpretations.

Basically it's tailored to push your emotional button.

Is it because doing so would upset their followers and perhaps many of them would stop using twitter?

Why would Twitter settle?

Presumably twitter wants to carry some authority no matter what we want. What they did is in service if their own goals.

This sounds like it would be against Twitter's terms of service.

Because a) Youtube does it too and b) often they get their Twitter accounts suspended.

So rather than clarify the new Twitter Policies, it would be more interesting to be told why they are making these changes.

Everyone is assuming it's because they want to lock down their platform... & lock it down along what seem pretty moveable and arbitrary lines. Why else would they do it? I'm a casual observer, but I have been following pretty carefully, and it's completely unclear to me.

So -- If it's not, they should just say. If it is, the Twitter developer ecosystem has plenty of reason to be worried about their homework.

Many reasons including: the tweet author closes their account, or deletes the tweet, or locks down their account or the tweet gets reported, etc etc.

It is something that Twitter has messed up (edit: Again). They shared data that they should not have.

Yeah I don't understand how the board of Twitter continues to allow this.

I imagine Twitter isn't too happy about this.

The reality is that Twitter will never do that. They have absolutely no reason to.

Twitter edits their site from the top all the time. It would look like your spam folder if they didn't. They remove spam, harassment, calls to violence, etc. It would not be popular if they didn't do any of this.

I'm kind of shocked as to why this is a surprise to anybody?

Isn't the very basis of twitters communication platform designed to be the basis of this exact situation?
