Yes, next to Apple's AirDrop, this is a welcome addition.

The lack of AirDrop integration before is probably one of the obnoxious things Apple has done recently. I'm really excited for this simple new feature.

AirDrop already benefits from it.

Also there’s airdrop

Since nobody has mentioned it yet here, I'm really glad to see AirDrop will finally work between OSX and iOS. It's bothered me for awhile that they have these two different things called "AirDrop" which were not compatible with one another.

Cool, seems like AirDrop which I find very useful.

Its amazing to me how AirDrop is such a big plus for Apple ecosystem even in 2024 given technologically it is one of the simplest things possible. The innovation is purely on the alignment of interests Apple has and its competitors don't because they are all competing with each other and then also Apple.

Seems interesting, and seems the developer has made good progress. This would potentially open up AirDrop for Android too. That would be great!

iPhones have (something very similar to) this baked-in as of iOS 7 in the form of AirDrop.

I support this change. It's a simple but significant improvement to the basic usability of AirDrop. It's conceivable that Apple came up with this simple usability improvement, publicly announced it, then rolled it out deliberately to hamper the efforts of protesters in China, but I think it's more likely to be a coincidence.

Just a coincidence that this gets rolled out 9 years after Airdrop debuted.

Not been an Apple user since a little while after Steve Jobs passed away, but this is in stark contrast to what people usually say about Airdrop. What I usually hear is that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and how everybody should be using it.

Like AirDrop?

Airdrop is also a win for apple. Or do you think other device manufacturers can add that simple service over wifi and the airdrop logo for free?

Airdrop and shared clipboard in the Apple ecosystem is pretty magical imo.

AirDrop it?

Talking about airdrop…

Curious seeing this basically right next to the Airdrop for Android post. I guess today we’re doing airdrop studies.

Airdrop is great. But most of the times you don’t even need to transfer anything from iOS to Mac, the files are already there, thanks to iCloud.

A few years ago I would have hated this because of vendor lock in. As a user, this is just sooo convenient and easy.

I recently switched back to iOS after years on Android, and on this point I've been very impressed with Airdrop. Dead simple UI, very quick transfer speeds, uses WiFi or Bluetooth as available. It's just a shame that it's limited to Apple devices.
