They probably don't pay for it. The hardware is decommissioned after a few years of usage.

At some point, the hardware is no longer supported by the OS though.

Does anyone use it anymore? Do they have any money left? Haven't heard anything

It's not used now

Has no activity since March , doubt it's still used.

No hardware was ever released for sale and last update was over a year ago.

Look another product they will retire in about a years time.

It's post 2022, it will not be used.

They may still sell them, but that surprises me because the story is correct, they stopped developing them. Nobody works on the AirPort anymore. They're just selling the last device they had, and it's only a matter of time until they stop. I'm actually surprised they haven't stopped already.

This really sucks.

They’re cancelling it because they don’t need it anymore. They need something like it, but the requirements have become archaic.

The fact that this was kept up in litigation until the technology became archaic is really, really disturbing.

They used up the devices they'd had manufactured, were saying they had no idea if and when they'd have more ... and I guess they've completely given up, now.

I heard a rumour that they sold of the IP rights piecemeal to so many different entities that it's nearly impossible to actually legally use the technology in a product anymore.

Perhaps they stopped maintaining it due to the lack of support.

Maybe a hint that it's an out of service obsolete product?

It hasn’t been useful for the past 2-years since they’ve stopped making firmware updates for that device.

Until very recently I worked there, and at once point I dug quite deeply into the company to see if I could find if it was still in use. I couldn't find documents referencing its present existence, packages to install it, or anything else, so I'm pretty certain that it's not in use.

Stops working after four years due to planned obsoletes but due to the billion dollar legal team it can never be proven in court.

If it’s discontinued and they don’t charge for it I hope they consider open sourcing the solution so others can try to make it functional.

Massive shame, honestly. Interesting technology that basically got used once and then discarded.

That becomes a unreturnable product. It has some use-cases but loses it's utility.
