They may still sell them, but that surprises me because the story is correct, they stopped developing them. Nobody works on the AirPort anymore. They're just selling the last device they had, and it's only a matter of time until they stop. I'm actually surprised they haven't stopped already.
They used up the devices they'd had manufactured, were saying they had no idea if and when they'd have more ... and I guess they've completely given up, now.
I heard a rumour that they sold of the IP rights piecemeal to so many different entities that it's nearly impossible to actually legally use the technology in a product anymore.
Until very recently I worked there, and at once point I dug quite deeply into the company to see if I could find if it was still in use. I couldn't find documents referencing its present existence, packages to install it, or anything else, so I'm pretty certain that it's not in use.
