Yeah what is it with people throwing "monopoly" at everything? Just because they're an industry leader doesn't mean they're anything close to a monopoly.

It's a monopoly.

That's not what a monopoly is.

That's not what a monopoly is.

That isn't what a monopoly is.

That's not what the word "monopoly" means though...

That's not what monopoly means.

"You and all of your competitors are a monopoly!" Am I the only one who notices that the statement is completely nonsensical bullshit?

"Monopoly" does not mean "two companies have lots of knowhow that competitors might like".

It’s abusing the definition of monopoly. There isn’t a single super-dominant games company choking out competition. In fact, companies steal each others’ lunch all the time; Fortnite surpassed PUBG, Cities Skylines from a small Finnish dev surpassed EA’s SimCity, and Stardew Valley was created by a single developer who surpassed Harvest Moon before him.

Monopoly doesn’t just mean “this company is bigger than I’d like.”

That's what happens when you're a monopoly.

At no point has "monopoly" meant anything other than "A single seller". The confusion comes from people trying to steal that term to refer to "big companies".

That’s not what a monopoly is.

Because it's not actually a monopoly. Monopoly means no competition. "Monopoly" just means "big" now apparently.

You don't have to be the most popular to be a monopoly. Not even close.

I don't understand why people think monopoly means "big company," especially when size is contingent on continuing to serve customers better than competitors.

There isn't a monopoly. Their competitors just are really bad at it.

Because people can't comprehend the difference between 'doing it better than everyone else' and 'being a monopoly'

Yeah that’s kind of the definition of a monopoly.....

They're not using the traditional definition of monopoly meaning lack of competition, now monopoly just means "too big".
