Rust also gives you strong guarantees around lack of aliasing.

Brendan Eich remains a homophobe who abuses his financial power to oppress people he doesn't like.

D'oh! Different person! whoops! So that really underscores my point, then. The "Why I Write Games in C" guy doesn't mention Rust anywhere!

You're inadvertently replying to a troll account impersonating steveklabnik [1] (note the position of the 'l' and 'n'). Please don't judge the Rust community based on such idiots – most of us are quite reasonable and don't go around proselytizing others :-)

Rust is targeting an audience where silently degrading performance is problematic.

Given that you seem to think that pcwalton is the creator of Rust, I'm guessing that your professed knowledge of the demographics of the Rust community is also entirely fantastical. Would you like to cite a source for your ad-hominem throwaway comments?

Rust? Well, speaking of egotistical open source people that refuse to change...

Rust is jesus and the holy spirit. A person who can't see this is an inferior programmer 100%.

And God help you if you point out strange warts and syntactic choices in Rust. You will be eviscerated.

Armin might like Rust but that doesn't mean that's why it was chosen in this case. In fact the article provides a reason: they already had a Rust library for source maps and that is a very good reason to go with Rust.

More generally though you're being unfair by not even seriously considering the option that there could be a legitimate reason. Also you're simply being an insulting with your common sense comment.

You are being disingenuous, for pretending this is about truth in some way and you're coming across as being an asshole by insulting people.

This is an old article [2015] by a guy who is paid to attack Rust by a company that makes static analysis tools for C/C++.

But yeah, if you don't have haters, you're doing something wrong.

What about blame the author for their lack of C++ skills while selling Rust, and pretending otherwise?

The title is the exact headline, and the rust programming language does not have a 'crew', nor any involvement with Alec Baldwin, and is unlikely to be the cause of gunfights with celebrities.

Let me guess, you're a Rust 'evangelist'? And enjoy ragging on one of the most important programming languages that basically has a monopoly on entire industries?

Ah, I see, since I'm defending Rust in this sub-thread, it's impossible for me to ask for constructive criticism instead of bullshit without it being "seemingly intolerant", while you're the reasonable one for doing the exact same thing. Basically just assuming I'm an idiot and/or arguing in bad faith. Lovely.

Not only are all your points about Rust incorrect, but numerous people in both this thread and past threads have repeatedly told you why they your points are incorrect and yet you persist in believing that they have been unaddressed. At this point it's safe to say that observers have caught on to your campaign of indefatigable misinformation and find it easier to downvote your comments than to waste any more of their time making arguments that you will proceed to blithely ignore.

In fact, it says a lot about Rust's culture that people were willing to engage you constructively in the first place despite your acerbic and technically-naive ramblings.

Rust dev baiting in a C++ thread...

No, I didn't mention Rust at all. Resist the impulse to reduce everything to zero-sum competitions between languages.

Klabnik has single handedly permanently deterred me from ever using rust. Terrible person, terrible language, terrible organization.

> avoid reputational damage

In less censored circles, Rust has THE worst reputation of any programming language purely because of this kind of management. The entire reputation of Rust is "that language made by insane leftists... with some memory safety or something". I've never seen any language community with a worse reputation, including JS.

I wouldn't advertise that I have a script hooked up to Hacker News.

I'll say @burntsushi when I please, thank you.

Klabnick got flagged below showdead when he mouthed off on this same thread. That's the Rust Community when their temper gets high. My temper also gets high. I apologize when I'm explicitly cited for going out of bounds, which I do. So cite an example (or ten) of me going out of bounds and I'll acknowledge it.

Citing the fact that Carl and Yehuda cited to me in person that they planned to monetize the Rust phenomenon is not hate speech, it's hear say, but everyone believes me, including you.

So let's hear a legitimate complaint?
