Airphrame - UAV Technology // San Francisco, CA // email:jobs@airphrame.com
Full Time:
- Full Stack Web Developer
- Front End Web Developer
- Back End Web Developer
- Mechatronics Engineer
- Computer Vision Engineer
---------------
Company:
Airphrame, a well funded venture-backed startup based in San Francisco, is building the technology to control fleets of autonomous devices in a scalable and centralized manner. That's right, tens of thousands of robots under our control... do I have your attention?
Our product focus is the development of a UAV-based “on-demand imaging platform,” primarily for data collection, to assist civil engineers, land surveyors, environmental engineers, and other professionals. Our technology has already demonstrated a tenfold cost reduction compared to traditional survey operations. Our goal is to use that advantage to open up a new realm of data acquisition strategies.
Airphrame has been developing drone technology since 2012. We were the first to demonstrate Internet-only based control and the first to utilize fleets commercially (completely without pilots). We've done more with less and plan to keep it that way. We prefer to work with small teams of talented people rather than large teams of “pretty good” engineers. We're a tight knit group, with immense respect for each other's complementary skill sets. We thrive on pushing the boundaries and our company mascot is a bourbon Manhattan.
We’re looking for self-directed, versatile individuals who work well in teams. You should be able to say you are the absolute best at what you do.
-----------------
Full Stack:
- Scala and/or Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
- Scalable API design and implementation
- Relational and NoSQL databases
- Knowledge of modern frontend frameworks
- Linux system administration
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- 4+ years industry experience, coding entire life
- Passion for robotics, maps, and startup experience are all big plusses
EXAMPLE TASK FOCUS
Create a web interface for an analyst to label objects shown in images that are a part of a large geospatial dataset.
Mechatronics:
- Knowledge of sensor selection, design, and usage (e.g. sensor fusion)
- Familiar with system integration, microprocessor, signal processing and various communication peripherals (e.g. SPI, I2C, UART)
- Hands-on prototyping and hardware debugging, including fine-pitch soldering and rework, use of oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
- Robust knowledge in embedded software developement (C, C++)
- Bonus: Experience integrating sensors directly with autopilots
EXAMPLE TASK FOCUS
Source and integrate a small parachute deployment based on sensor feedback through the Pixhawk flight controller.
Looks interesting. Anyone know what kind of tech the IT systems are built on? I'd be interested in sending a resume. I actually used to have a valid A&P mechanic's license. Always wanted to do software development for airlines but the large enterprise style environment has always turned me off.
Advanced Simulation Technology, inc. (ASTi)
Herndon, VA | Multiple Positions | ONSITE
We’re a small company building innovative products in the simulation & training industry. One of our newest products is SERA, the Simulated Environment for Realistic ATC. SERA helps airline pilots learn to communicate by simulating the entire air traffic control environment, including artificial intelligence for aircraft and controllers, speech recognition on pilot speech, and text-to-speech radio chatter.
ASTi has been around for about 25 years. We’ve been very successful in our niche (audio & communications), but we’re beginning to grow in adjacent areas and need your help!
Check out this page for more information on ASTi, our unique work environment, and the full job descriptions: https://www.asti-usa.com/jobs.
A few other reasons to consider ASTi: excellent compensation, start at 4 weeks vacation (growing to 6 weeks over time), company-paid retirement plan, and we were included in Washingtonian’s "50 Great Places to Work" in 2013.
Some of our other interesting projects:
- Creating embedded audio devices (I/O for headsets & speakers)
- 3D sound systems for flight simulators (think big -14 speakers, 2 subs)
- Web-based communications (WebRTC, etc.)
- Aircraft flight modeling and visualization
- Bridging live radios onto VOIP networks

At Airphrame, www.airphrame.com, Our goal is to deploy a fleet of fleet of flying robots, potentially 10,000’s across the world, that are constantly updating geophysical data (such as 3D point cloud sets) for mapping platforms, environmental & civil engineers, and other business who can utilize such data. We’ve been in business 3 years, have recently raised 5M serA, and have paying customers who love us. In the present, our data is invaluable to maintaining utilities infrastructure (dams, powerlines, highways, rail, etc). In the future, robots (for delivery, cars, etc) will depend on good mapping data to navigate the physical world - and we will be an essential part of that.
--Interesting People/Place--
We’re a small and highly skilled group who prefers working with top talent than at a big company. Founded by three engineers: Mechatronics, Unmanned Systems, and Software, you’d be in the first 10 employees. We have a young environment with offices in MidMarket SF and a robotics laboratory (aka adult treehouse) in Oakland.
