From what I read however, it can't be set to work OOTB for everyone on my network; I'd have to go on every machine and every Internet-connected application to try and change it, hoping all the applications would let me (if I read correctly, Chrome won't?).

Works for me Chrome on Ubuntu, 11.19 UTC.

Hmm, works for me (Chrome 24.0.1312.57 m Win 7).

Yup, I spoofed Chrome on Chromium to make it work.

Works with all test sites, and most other sites...

...except for Google.com, which still hardcodes it to Chrome (doesn’t even seem to work in Chromium there for me).

I am on Chrome 60.0.3112.101 too and it works.

hmm just tried it with Chrome on my machine and it seemed to be working, perhaps they've already updated?

From my understanding, it only works in Firefox and not Chrome though as an FYI.

Did you restart Chrome after? It should work everywhere.

It does follow system settings, if you’re using a browser that supports it. It works on Edge but not Chrome on my MacBook.

It only works if your browser claims to be Chrome. (That's how you can get it working in Firefox, too)

Odd. Works for me using Chrome 43.

i'm on the same version of chrome (win7) and it works for me

it does if you use a user agent switcher to chrome

Worked ok for me on Win7 x64 Ultimate with Chrome 43.0.2357.124 m.

Could be a plugin interfering? I have Privacy Badger installed and sometimes have to enable certain third parties I think or know I can trust before I see some content on a page every now and again.

Works for me on Windows 7 with Chrome 51.0.2704.84 m.

I tried this feature when I was on support with them... Chrome crashed every time I tried to run it.

You'll be surprised how well it works by just switching the user-agent. It's more of a "too lazy to make sure it works" than a "actually doesn't work and Chrome should be used" situation.

Out of idle curiosity I tested that domain too, and it works on my end (Chromium 80.0).

Doesn't work for me. Chrome on Ubuntu.

Yes. Very easy.
