I don't use Twitter, yet I still hear what the President says on Twitter.

I don't read Twitter... I especially don't read the President's tweets.

The president doesn't make major annoucements using HN. The fact is, Twitter has taken on a different role.

Not just that but the President still has a presence on Twitter both through @POTUS and @WhiteHouse.

President is not dependent on twitter, just like his predecessors were not. The president can make official and unofficial announcements.

twitter means the president can talk directly to the american people in a very accessible way

Youre right. Before twitter took this step I was unable to decide whether to read the president's tweets. Every morning I am forced by twitter to read trumps tweets. Thank goodness this is no longer the case. /s

Plenty of presidents before him have functioned just fine without Twitter, I'm not sure why people are outraged about a single channel of communication, among a sea of countless others, not being available to him is a problem.

Well, it turns out twitter isn't a good way for president of the united states to communicate with the world. Who would have thought :)

Neither Twitter nor Facebook are "the main method of communication" for the President.

Twitter isn't "a closed platform" in the sense that is relevant here. If I want to read the President's tweets without a Twitter account, I can.

Twitter is where the president lies about US elections and says a lot of his racist things and endorses violence. And Twitter more or less lets it go, so that's not great.

I suspect the vast majority of people read what Trump said on Twitter on their favorite news site, rather than using Twitter itself.

Have you read the President's twitter account lately?

Yes there’s no reason twitter has to do anything trump says. He uses twitter because it is game able and repeated by the media.

What the president says on Twitter affects me or the world, whether or not he uses a 9 iron or a driver to get the ball out of the sand trap does not.

You can't even conflate the two. Twitter is his method of communicating to us. He doesn't use the media like previous president's.

I mean ... they don't. Twitter is really not that big of a deal. Removing his ability to tweet means ... almost nothing. He can still talk to the press, post to other social media, hold press conferences from the white house press room, he has no shortage of ways of getting his message out there.

Every other president managed alright without depending on Twitter.

There were US presidents before Twitter, you know that right?

Trump was the one who chose to keep using Twitter as his main medium of communication. He has a LOT of dedicated presidential communication infrastructure available to him. He is choosing not to use it.

The only thing that reflects badly on the US is trump.

All I ever hear is the media reporting what Trump says on Twitter. It's not like you have to actually be on it to know.
