Bigger shocker here. I hope Rivian doesn't follow the same path, but I can't seem to find any real videos of their truck doing what they've been saying it's capable of either.
I just mean that I haven't seen any footage of a Rivian actually being used or doing what they say.
There are marketing videos but for all I know that's an F-150 with a new skin.
You would assume if they really had something with 410 mile range they would have a journalist come and do some long drive, I.E. Tesla going from LA->SF two days ago.
Or showing off it's acceleration. I really don't think they have even a single working truck that does what they say it does yet. Not to say they're a fraud, just that they're not there yet.
“you will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in 2022.”[1]
Rivian is frantically trying to IPO for $80 billion during September. If possible, before they actually ship any trucks.
Meanwhile, Ford is coming out with the electric Ford F-150. They have 70,000 pre-orders. Also, the boring but useful Ford Transit commercial van is going electric.
Rivian deliveries will start in July, Lucid later in the year, and Ford in Spring next year. The F-150's range figures are with 1,000 pounds of weight onboard so the unweighted range will be greater.
The Audi e-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan can also achieve 300 miles range. If you put thinner, smaller tyres on you can achieve more range:
It's based on the semi truck. They didn't announce reservations for it or anything. It might be fair to call it a concept truck at this time, but I doubt it's the last we'll see of it.
Honestly this is a good move, I just have a quick question:
Does anyone anywhere have video footage of a Rivian actually being driven? Like, not in a commercial, someone genuinely driving it. I just want to know if they are anywhere close to having a production vehicle. If they have a single production vehicle that does what they say, then OK they "just" have to figure out scaling up the manufacturing.
If they don't have a single vehicle, they are years and years away, to the point that Tesla truck may beat them to mass market.
Not only are most of the specs better, the price is better for the lower end versions, and get unique features like steel and armor glass. There was a toddler killed by a stray bullet on I-880 last weekend, I'm thinking he might have survived in a Cybertruck.
Of course the downside is maybe gangs will start buying Cybertrucks and use them for drive bys.
Nice picture there. Also, search Rivian on the TFL Trucks web site for everything they have ever done on the Rivian.
