Maybe it uses font ligatures to change based on the surrounding characters.

Like a few on here, I never learned the proper way to type although I use all 10 digits. My typing were from countless hours coding or chatting.

I thought https://typing.io/ was pretty cool as a complementary course to more traditional ones. it's aimed at programmers. Helped me out a bit with special characters when I was relearning how to type.
