Let's tax the people who pay all the taxes even more...

The worst problem with these tax proposals is that they won't even raise half as much revenue as they need for the programs they are supposed to fund.

Great, just charge the people more taxes. Terrible idea.

The problem is that in reality, paying more taxes just creates more problems.

Pay people who can't more, then tax them.

And then let's add some taxes to make this proposal even worse!

Here's a really interesting proposal... instead of paying in 25k, wasting 20k, then paying out 2k, why not just not have people pay so much tax up front?

Let's tax the rich more! That will solve all our problems! I'm sure the gov won't burn through the extra revenue and come back asking for more!

Taxes are already too high.

So you are actually proposing to raise taxes. The problems is that everyone hate that, and will avoid paying taxes and/or vote for the opposition party.

Which proposal is that? The ones about putting more taxes on people making over $400,000 a year?

The problem is that no one is naive enough to believe they'll somehow lower any existing taxes (either sales or property) with the introduction of an income tax. They'll keep them all, and try and introduce some new program that helps a specific demographic.

From what I see, this usually ends up with money moving between pockets with a bureaucracy taking its cut along the way. I try not to be overly political, but I can't stand the idea of a strong, central planning government.

Let's see a balanced, itemized budget. Even in the article they're just spitballing ideas with what they could do it an extra $140m.

More people. Paid from taxes. Ok, let's increase taxes! Oh, wait...

They want other people to pay increased taxes.

So now its we have to tax everyone? Okay.

You've basically gotta take half of the household income in the country to make your plan work. That isn't happening.

How about we stop trying to solve everything with more taxes? This kind of solution tends to hurt the less wealthy.

The weight placed on the backs of the taxpayers is heavy enough.

I feel like I'm the only progressive that wants a decrease in taxes.

Seriously I don't want anyone making under 100K to pay taxes. Heck maybe under 150K.

We have so much fucking money in this govt that we seriously don't need more taxes. Let's use the money we have to make shit better for people first, before we ask them to give up more of their $€£¥

To me, this has nothing to with with how much anyone else is paying. If I pay 20%, and someone else who makes way more than me pays 15%, I don't care. I would prefer

It's about what we're doing with the taxes. If the government could guarantee that all new revenue generated by tax increases would go directly to knocking down the deficit, I would be all for it. However, this would never happen. If taxes go up, then spending will probably go up, putting us (all taxpayers) further in debt. This is simply unsustainable and unfair to future citizens. I just don't trust the government to do good with more revenue.

Why should we tax the poor? No, we should tax the rich, ramp that tax rate up to 90 percent for the highest brackets, and stop putting half our taxes to military. We'd suddenly have so much money we wouldn't know what all to spend it on.

Yeah the idea is to have them pay more with that dedicated tax and pay less elsewhere.

The solution for that is to tax wealthy people more.
